Blizzard, Increase the Number of Tanks in Raids, There Are No Tank Spots Available

It is difficult for tanks to find raid guilds because raids only need two tanks, which can lead to tanks being excluded from raid groups. This can be frustrating for players who enjoy tanking and want to participate in raids, especially if they have helped to alleviate the tank shortage by tanking in mythic+ pugs.

One solution for this dilemma is for Blizzard to increase the number of tank slots in raids, so that there are more opportunities for tanks to participate. For example, the number of tank slots could be based on the size of the raid group, with one tank per group (just like in mythic+ and other dungeon content), so an additional tank for every 5 man group in the raid. This would allow more tanks to participate in raids, and help mythic+ groups that are short on tanks by providing more tanks who are geared from raids and available to tank in mythic+ as well.

In my case, as a prot warrior pug tank, I want to be able to get into groups for raids and not be excluded due to limited tank slots. I haven’t even been able to find a guild or pug raid to tank for this expansion. Hopefully, by increasing the number of tank slots in raids, more tanks will have the opportunity to participate in raids and enjoy the content.

So… 4 tanks, 2 healers… 4 dps for those 10 man guilds?

1 tank per group of the raid, so if 4 groups in the raid then 4 tanks, if its 10-man guild run then it would still just be 2.

Agree, it’s a longstanding issue that Blizzard never wants to address.

And it’s not just raiding/guilds that are the problem, tanks also have the Unwelcome Mat out for them in most pvp scenarios, too, and when tanks do start to get involved, people freak out and complain.

Blizzard continually adds “everyone in the raid takes damage every 2 seconds” mechanics to most raid fights, just to create a situation where we have Full Employment For Healers.

If they keep going out of their way to have Full Employment For Healers, they can and should do the same thing for tanks.

Okay, but what do the other two tanks do?

I already explained it.

Ten tanks.

All prot warriors.

Healers are so last expansion.

Put a statue in the corner that has to be tanked the whole fight or it wipes the raid. It’s not very interesting, but then neither is “everyone takes X damage every 2 seconds” and Blizzard habitually adds those to every single fight just so there’s a reason to bring more healers.

No no, I understand what you said. But the design of encounters is what I mean. What would those other two tanks do and how do you keep up the dps checks?

Does everything need redesigned?

It should be 1 tank per group just like Mythic+ is. Normal/Heroic are flex raid, meaning it scales from 10 players (minimum) to 30 players (maximum) so if it’s a 10-player raid then it would 2 tanks, if it’s a 20-player raid then it should be 4 tanks, if it’s a 30 player raid then it should be 6 tanks. This would also help the players that are short tanks for mythic+ since these tanks that can also get geared from raids can also que for mythic+ as well.

Explain to me how “everybody takes damage every 2 seconds” is any better.

Sort of. They are definitely too OP in arena (or have been).

But yeah very few bgs require a tank. So that essentially leaves raid or m+.

Its a tricky thing, the tank shortage can be attributed to a few things. Few of them needed to sustain a roster, etc.

I still think the push to e-sports have made things worse than ever. Very few people even want to try and learn M+ tanking. The push to race everything has made it so that even slow and steady is considered a problem.

M+ is a pretty hostile environment for “learning”. Heroics are a joke. M0s are meaningless after weeks 1 and 2 of any xpac launch.

I don’t know how to solve it at this point.

Sure you do.

They need to stop that.

Because at least everyone still has a viable job while damage ticks.

Your statue thing just reminded me of when we used to sit our healer in the corner and tell him just to keep himself alive, because he was a great guy but super bad at the game. lol

Moving a way from tier sets also didn’t help.

Somehow we realized it was nice to not have to collect the same gear twice (sets change with spec - i think back in MoP) before we decided that no, all slots have to be dedicated to a spec again.

Luckily it looks like sets are back to stay.

A 3rd or 4th tank that’s tanking the statue to stop the raid from wiping is no different from the 5th or 6th healer that’s brought just to blanket the raid with HoTs to cover the ticking damage every 2 seconds.

Absolutely. Zero. Difference.

Except that one is already in the game.

Most fun I ever had raiding was doing 30 Tank Heroic Raids in BFA. Where we all ran TD corruption with SotW essence. Was sooooo much fun. No Dps, No Healers just the big boy Tanks mowing stuff down. Tanking and spanking which is how it should be done.

That’s your problem. You’re making up useless jobs that aren’t needed and taking away from the dps checks.

And no one was talking about extra healers.

Just learn your DPS spec and then tank M+s for your guild. You’ll be in very high demand.

No shot anything will change regarding 2 tanks per raid.
