Blizzard ignoring faction imbalance: Why?

rubbish
This is a matter of calculated policy. Blizzard cannot allow classic to interfere with their retail flagship franchise, and they need to reduce numbers before the next expansion.

You are resurrecting a 24 day old topic. Classic is not making any money. To play Classic, you need to subscribe to Retail.

So I and many others are subscribing to Retail, which shows in Blizzard’s monthly recurring revenue, just to play Classic.

What are they supposed to do about it

Other than tripling subscription revenue when it was released…

GOOD question! Do they know something we don’t? After all, they have 14 years of PVP server experience – and during those years Blizzard NEVER, EVER faction-balanced their PVP servers.

Maybe Blizzard believes that global (server-wide) faction imbalance IS NOT the cause of the recent problems – that this is a player MYTH, or simply an excuse.

What is the actual problem? “I got ganked 30 times in the same spot, by the same group of 20 level 60 horde”. “I got ganked by 20 level 60 horde players at the boat dock”. Stuff like that.

Okay, how many horde are needed for that to happen? 20. Not 15,000. Not “twice as many on your server”. There could be 120 level-60 Hordes on the whole server, that formed into 6 gank groups of 20 and hung out in the 6 most-likely-Alliance-to-go places. Who cares what faction the other 20,000 players are? Nobody is being ganked by 20,000 players! Server faction balance is not the problem.

There is no reason to fix faction imbalance. It’s World of WARcraft not World of FAIRcraft. In war two sides being evenly matched is rare. One side always has an advantage in numbers or technology or both. So that old saying “All’s fair in love and war” applies. Good luck!

Maybe, just maybe, and I know this is going to sound really weird but… maybe the factions aren’t unbalanced and your faction is just a bunch of chickens who are hiding in the main cities?

@Aruk The money is actually rolling out. Alliance on a lot of servers is pretty barren. Incendius had one of the highest Alliance populations (still outnumbered, but not nearly as bad) and I’ve noticed a pretty steep decline in numbers. A lot of people will probably come back when BG’s are released, but a lot of them will stay away for good. People that may not have quit at all if their experience hadn’t been absolutely SHAT on over the past few weeks.

Except this isn’t war. This is real people paying real money and getting two completely different experiences.

If playing as the dominant faction came at a premium price, then it would make sense that they have a better experience.

But as an example, what we have here is two people paying the same amount of money for flight. One gets a business class experience the other an economy class experience.

Can your intelligence please brush off to others who seem to be confused over this? This is by far the best comment, hardest hitting truth I’ve read in a long time. This may be a 26 day old comment, but by god give this man an award.

If it was, Blizzard would make changes. It’s been too short a time to know if the honor changes will reduce subs; they almost certainly worry more about subs actually paid than subs currently set to recur (as the latter can change any time, and some people never set them to recur).

The experiences are different but only slightly so. One side is outnumbered and has to fight harder to win. The other side has more players but their players have to compete for people to fight with. If you rolled an alliance character, you probably knew what you were getting into. Same with rolling a horde toon. The ONLY way to “fix” the problem is to forcefully balance it. That’s gonna drive more players away than an imbalance.

Since what most people who say “faction imbalance” really mean is “I’d like to stop getting ganked in the open world”, Blizz is responding to their real concern, rather than their claimed concern, by releasing BG’s to bleed off the gankers.

And I doubt they are too worried yet about all the people claiming they’re going to unsubscribe. If they are too invested to reroll, they are likely too invested to unsub, at least not once the problem they are having goes away.

If I get in a group with 30 other max-level characters, I can compete just fine…in any faction, on any PVP server.

If I try to solo on a PVE server, I will get ganked repeatedly…in any faction, on any PVP server.

Players in this forum have invented the MYTH that server-wide faction balance makes a difference. It doesn’t. It would ONLY IF all the thousands of players in each faction were organized, as 2 giant armies fighting each other.

They aren’t. Nothing like that is happening on any server.

It is not surprising that Blizzard is ignoring an imaginary problem. Blizzard has 13 years of “unbalanced” PVP experience.

im glad that tons of people decided to go horde this time around. as an alliance player who is waiting for bgs, i can honestly say, I find it fantastic that i will always have instant queues no matter when i want to pvp.

It very much does. Places like BRM changes hands repeatedly on Grobby. On imbalanced realms it may never change hands. There is also the knowledge that the other faction is quite capable of striking back quickly, rather than being perpetually suppressed.

Lmao you’re an idiot. Blizzard has repeatedly attempted faction balance and openly stated a number of times that it was a problem they were at least partially responsible for. But there isn’t much they can do in Classic as all their fix attempts happened after wrath. This is a player created problem. Blizzard warned people what would happen if people didn’t take faction balance into account. They did the same for high realm pops. And looky looky… people ignored em and did whatever they wanted anyway then blame blizz for their own stupidity.

General piece of advice for you. If this is how you have to start your post, you are most likely wrong. If you ever find yourself thinking “I gotta start this off with a really strong insult” that’s your brain telling you that you have no logical base to stand on. Listen to your brain and rethink your position.

Yup, you being an idiot and somehow thinking it’s also a strong insult makes me wrong cause… reasons. Derphard snowflakes these days man…

There’s only one thing that will make me unsubscribe and it would be transfers for ONLY the dominant faction without also implementing a login queue for ONLY the dominant faction. That’s a terrible idea.
