Forget it. imagine picking the most attention needed archer class, and being expected to run in and hit with a weapon then run out and shoot, not gonna happen. If you wanna make Melee spec need to do that, go ahead but I feel like they aren’t gonna be happy. We already got enough to pay attention too.
So let me clarify,
Marksman they wanna stand back and shoot powerful charged up shots from long distance. Damage Type: Slow Ranged Burst.
Beast Mastery want their pet to be their main weapon and give support fire from a distance even if their arrows are lacking. Damage Type: Normalized Sustain
Survival Melee hunters well they want just that, they want to be in close and swing their weapons, while applying various forms of CC to disorient their enemy and keep themselves right ontop of them. Damage Type: Ramping Burst
Survival Ranged Hunters, want to apply debuffs and DoTs. While keeping their enemies away with DoT’s and CC. Damage Type: Ramping Sustain.
Try telling Rogues and Warriors they need to Melee Weave, they can fire bows and use weapons.
You are just gonna have to take a more drastic approach in the system to make it so people can’t stand back and shoot powerful charged shots, while their pet is weapon of mass destruction, while keeping their enemys all disoriented. Trying to make the class more complicated to be good so people don’t play, so you don’t have to worry about balancing it does not seem like the strategy.

I know hunters from classic who literally said, last week while playing SOD, that they started melee weaving because it broke up the monotony of just the most zzz rotation in the world. There are people who melee weave because it’s more fun and active gameplay

the good ones will definitely melee-weave… at least on certain boss fights that favor it.

Min/maxers gonna min/max regardless of what that means. If Melee Weave is how you do the most damage then the try-hards are gonna melee-weave for their E-ego.

The good ones are just gonna roll whatever class has the highest DPS, if hunter isn’t the number 1 dps they aren’t gonna do anything.

You do realize your forum avatar is a Hunter, right?
You do realize I was making fun of blizzard for thinking that we should have to do even more attentive things when we are the only class in the game that has to pay attention to their weapon swing timer, how close they are, how far they are and their pet.
No good hunter stops doing damage while they are avoiding mechanics. In retail it is kinda brain dead. But classic you gotta focus on stuff other classes just tunnel vision on while spamming their rotation.

I’m going to melee weave because it’s fun. If you don’t want to, you don’t have to.

I find it enjoyable. I’d like a ranger-ish build for a hunter.
I’m betting I eventually meet a geared melee hunter with disgusting melee dmg tbh and i can’t wait
I think the idea behind it was more for pvp when you got a Mele in your face. We don’t have near as much CC at 25 so being able to chonk a warrior or rogue up close when they get to you and you can’t shoot is kind of nice.
I never liked the idea of having to melee weave during classic era for optimal dps. If I wanted to melee I’d play a melee class.
Melee weaving means they run back and forth from melee to ranged, with the dead zone it’s gonna be a loss of DPS unless they make each one buff each other. No matter how it works they are gonna lose dps, and no healers want to have to chase after a hunter to get their heals in cause he keeps running in and out.
Most melee hunters want to Melee they don’t want a revised version of retail survival hunter, where you ranged and leap yourself in and melee, then run out and attack.
I was one of these players, and while it was a more enjoyable playstyle than BM’s snoozefest of a playstyle, I want to play an archer. Not a melee weaving ninja. Granted it was a cool little gimmick, it was so annoying and frustrating when my healers didn’t dispel movement debuffs–and I really don’t want to play a melee/ranged hybrid, I want to play an Archer-Style Ranger.
I would MUCH rather have Sniper Training re-designed to be “when you move X yards, your next ranged shot ability has +20% damage.” This would make playing the class more dynamic and fun, add some movement requirements to playing an archer, and buff the damage of MM. It would also play into this melee weaving meta they seem to be gung-ho on incentivizing.
Standing still is not fun. At all. Whoever thought of that rune…I’m sorry but I don’t have much respect for that design decision. Forcing players to stand still for 6 seconds in any circumstance is just boring, bad gameplay.
Also, Lone Wolf should be on the leg slot and buffed to +25% damage.

Not all of us require an addon to give us validation. I swear sometimes I don’t even think people see past the DPS meter.

Not all, but a majority of players do, and you can’t deny that. Think of every world first raid group for instance. Or hardcore guilds. If Melee weaving hunters become a thing and it becomes a skill issue to get higher dps than the mage that can stand still and spam fire ball, the mage will be picked over the hunter just cause they don’t have to worry about the what ifs.
When half the mechanics in WoW are DPS Checks, then yeah, the meter is pretty important unless you want to fail constantly. This trains most players to value high DPS and monitor their performance.
the worst part is that it would be really easy to fix
just have carve rune make RS instant on a 3s CD, because Carve is friggin weak anyways
Bonus if they grow a brain and have Flanking reurn like 25% pet damage as mana for 10s
streamers ruined this game… stop being a parasocial wierdo

And if people insist on playing with other people who reduce this game down to nothing more than effective numbers, then they absolutely deserve to be left out.
