Blizzard, have you ever thought about letting us name our mounts?

I once restarted a warlock, because I hated the Imps name.

I’ve done that more than once.

I don’t know how this would work. I guess the tooltip in the mount menu would change? All I can really think of as far as that goes.

If you want you can write up a macro so that you emote “Motorz summons Mount-Name” linked to your mount button. But your mount wouldn’t be technically named and everyone would see the emote.

I don’t know, that’s all I got. :man_shrugging:

Ngl, I’ve done the same from time to time

I always figured it could have been one of two things, both heavily relying on conjecture. The first assumption is that the names are set in stone purely for lore and roleplay reasons. Demons tend to have a higher level of cognition, sentience, and are more or less people, barring a few exceptions like felhounds, felsteeds, void hounds, etc., so it makes sense that most would already have their own names prior to being bound to a warlock.

They’re less animals and more beings.

The second hunch is that it could very well be a coding issue. Old code in software can be absolutely miserable to change, and depending on the infrastructure of how it was initially written and compiled. While a part of me doubts that if they tried to introduce player made demon and mount names it would be a massive undertaking, it’s not entirely unheard of, especially with a game as old as WoW.

Would this even show up anywhere other than your journal?

I guess inspection, but would anyone be looking to inspect your character to see what you named your mount? Usually it’s to see what it is so they can find where to get it.

So i understand why folks would answer with this but here is my problem with it. If we let this be the answer so it’s a no, then when does that end? Because what you are saying is that some “bad actors” and folks that will use names to troll get to make it so those of us with a certain fantasy or want in the game don’t get to have it because those folks will abuse it.

That’s not right, we should be able to improve the game with a small win even if (and we all know it will happen) trolls are going to troll.

They do some pretty clever swirly stuff with the code and I suspect its less like the old game code than it was. They have had two decades to rework it, and given how much they do now that they never could before, I suspect its a lot different now.

My feeling is that the devs could do almost anything with it they wanted to - they have even admitted they could do player housing (which is potentially a huge change to the game) but that it would take a lot of work. I think a relatively small change like being able to click on a warlock pet and change its name would be much less difficult.

In before some 13 year old names his “Your mum”

they haven’t let us have last names either.

I might call mine Motorz.

I could imagine the players naming them several…gamer words…one of them being with “N”

That’s actually another pet peeve of mine. I have asked about that several times over the years as it would solve the name availability problem. This character wasn’t always Motorz but is stuck because the name is taken on the server it’s on now and i can’t get my original name back /cry.

Last names for characters too please Blizzard.
