Pservers have been and are doing the WoW experience for free for years. However, the downside of those servers was that you never really knew how permanent your characters you made there would be. If the server shut down or died, you lost your characters and all the time you invested there.
When Blizzard launched Classic, most the Pserver people were thrilled to have a stable, permanent place for their WoW characters. You wouldn’t have to worry about your characters ever getting lost. If your server died, at least you could always transfer to the next most populated one.
Only that’s not really true.
Blizzard forcibly migrated my Classic characters to BC then to Wrath from the Vanilla Era I created them on. While I was taking a break from the game, apparently there was a limited time window when I could have cloned them to keep them on Classic Era, which I apparently missed, and came back to find my characters and all the time I invested in them, gone.
This was a ludicrous decision. Who in their right mind okay’d this? Surely the sensible thing to do would have been to offer a limited-time option to clone your Classic Era characters to the NEXT expansion. Instead you did the opposite.
You have destroyed the one thing that encouraged us to pay your sub instead of signing up for the Pservers. Well, good-bye Blizzard. You’ve lost my trust and my wallet.
Yeah, feels bad, had alts that i could have started up again when i came back, instead currently leveling back to 60, when i had a level 49 i could have started back with, but nope forcibly sent on to wrath for no reason, if i didn’t move him to TBC why force it?
Yeah I was really frustrated to come back and see that my toons were grayed out and could only be accessed in TBC. Forever Vanilla servers especially Whitemane are picking up in population so I started over. Would be nice if Blizzard gave us the option back to unlock our grayed out characters, wishful thinking I’m sure.
The decision to close the cloning after 1 year isn’t that outlandish. Blizzard completely dropped the ball in terms of effectively communicating that closure. A single email would have been great.
The decision making that went into Classic has been completely bonkers. Funny how basement dwellers doing it for free can make better decisions than a multimillion dollar company.
I have been seeing lots of adds for those servers lately for Classic as well and for a non class based one which looks not too fun.
Blizzard runs some really advanced software than can detect the second you access a privet server on your computer. Playing on one can get your account banned as well. They will know when you began to play on it and what one it was.
Maybe a SOM 2 is possible exactly the way SOM 1 was. But idk. Having less servers for It this next time around.
You should be happy they moved your character. If they didnt you would have came off your break and logged onto a server where you and 5 other people are playing.
I agree, it was bad to make the default move a push into the next expansion. Instead, they should have made the default non-response to be your character staying in permanent classic. I also think that they should let people clone their characters up through expansions whenever they’d like, not at one set point in time.
Plus, Blizzard effectively deleted your Era character without so much as an email.
If you weren’t following the forums while you were not playing the game, you lost all that time and money you invested - without so much as an email notification. Terrible communication.
This says nothing of the awful decision to FORCE everyone to choose between paying to stay in Era or accept the free transition to current expac.
That seems to be their strategy so far, when they will delete Wrath and replace it with Cata. This is basically their release strategy in new Retail expansions lol.
So much for “preserving Classic.”
Blizzard’s current Classic strategy is unnecessarily fragmenting the WoW Classic community.
Uh what? I’ve literally played both servers side by side. Blizz ain’t trying to detect nothing. They can’t even detect these gold seller bots.
Literally played wow and a private server at the same time
I’m not even talking about once, I’m telling you I did this regularly.
They aren’t looking for this stuff bro. If you want me to prove it I’ll just play Everlook Friday when it releases while doing daily’s on wrath. Nothing is going to happen. Lmao
