they had nerfed ruination back in beta, when chaos bolt was doing less than half of current damage.
they slowly buffed chaos bolt a lot, but forgot ruination replaces it for diabolist and currently diabolist is unplayable as destro in pvp because of this.
It’s sad how in PvP we see the awesome meteor to fall just to notice it doesn’t make a dent in a player’s health pool; meanwhile, in PvE it will decimate, er, ruin, an NPC’s life expectancy .
Literally 50% of most players’ HP. I don’t know what you think CB should be like. 7mi?
I agree, that’s why Hellcaller feels weak. CBs don’t hit as hard as Diabolist’s.
Except it is not a “meme”. Diabolist is great, CBs are much better than they are as Hellcaller. The only benefit HC has is not having to cast Immolate, Wither barely does any damage. People just didn’t give Diabolist a chance after the CB buffs and Wither nerfs. It is solid.
Although I agree that Ruination needs buffs.
And no, CB doesn’t need to hit insanely stronger in rotation. That’s insane, hitting 3.5mi in bursts is already insane, especially taking into account that now you can spam 3 or more CBs so fast. If it was hitting 2mi every time it would be like the strongest spec in the game. The game has changed, we are not seeing Chaos Bolts like we did back in MOP again, and there’s a reason for that. Just like rogues can no longer one shot, nor will warlock. That’s how Subtlety died as a spec.

fully geared vs fully geared, CB averages 1.7m. even with procs aligned it’s in low 2m.
players have 7m to 9m HP.
diabolist and hellcaller CB does the exact same damage.
ruination “upgrades” CB to do 700k dmg instead of 1.7m.
you do more dmg by macro’ing cancelaura on ruination buff.
Wait, how does a spell who in PVE hits for 2m~2.5m and have a damage multiplier of 2.34 in pvp hits for only 1.7m in pvp? even with mitigation from versa and different attributes in account that don’t looks right.
