Blizz, I’ve got two questions because some of these Disc design choices make absolutely no sense.
First, why is my Penance hitting random mobs when I’m trying to heal myself? If I’m self-casting and I haven’t selected an enemy, why is a bolt flying off and tagging something I never targeted? Is my Priest suddenly incapable of controlling where their own spell goes? If I want Penance hitting an enemy, I’ll target the enemy. If I’m self-healing, stop volunteering me for another fight.
Second, what is with the forced glowing eyes and head effect? I spent time customizing my character and choosing blue eyes just so the spec can slap glowing yellow blobs over them and stick what looks like a magical birthmark on my forehead. Why even give us character customization if the spec is going to overwrite it?
If people like the effect, great. Put it in character customization and let them choose it. Don’t permanently staple it onto everyone just because they picked a particular spec.
Come on, Blizzard. These aren’t complicated concepts: my spells should hit what I tell them to hit, and my character should look the way I customized them to look. Wake up and use some common sense.
The whole point is that this shouldn’t happen in the first place. Imagine a two-handed DPS class fighting one mob, and suddenly their weapon flies out of their hands and smacks a random pack standing off to the side. “Oops, guess my character forgot how to control their own weapon.”
Sounds ridiculous, right? Because it is.
That’s basically what’s happening here. If I didn’t target that mob, my spell shouldn’t randomly decide to tag it for me. I should control where my abilities go, not cross my fingers every time I cast and hope my Priest doesn’t decide to start another fight.
Does that sound like a mechanic that should exist? Yeah… no.
Maybe it shouldn’t work like that. Youre probably right. But it does. You can fix it by using a different hero talent for now.
Extra question. Which omnium folio skill were you using when noticing this issue? For a few days after the patch launched the fire skill was tagging mobs. Its possible your penance was hitting something you were already in combat with due to the fire omnium folio skill bugging.
Twinsight does not tag mobs you’re not already in combat with (the only exception to this is target dummies it likes to hit the dungeoneer/tank dummies). Either you’d already tagged it or another thing you had (trinket, omnium power, etc) tagged it and penance was just reacting.
Hopefully that frustrating scenario won’t happen anymore. Supposedly that effect was fixed and shouldn’t hit unexpected targets, leaving penance to work as intended.
This was a problem paladin’s had back in the day and they fixed it. Until they reintroduced it with judgement in this expansion.
Targets not in combat with the priest should not be hit my penance. This was Blizzard’s policy once with similar abilities for other classes. It should remain their policy now.
