Ok, so. First, you nerf the player power(no, this is not subjective :even uncorrupted 475 ilvl toons were stronger in 8.3 compared to the same toons on 9.0 or level 60s on Castle nathria gear) to solo older content, and now you decide to nerf vendor prices because you don’t want players to go to older content, nevermind that there are far bigger ways to make gold but you dont nerf them because people have to play shadowlands content for them.
Why the hell are you so hell bent on keeping people away from older content like this? Whats next, you plan to remove or make mounts harder to get in older content as well to make people play systemlands as well?
EDIT: its even worse than i first noticed, Legion content got hit even worse. Here are some samples from Tomb of Sargeras Mythic loot :

For god’s sake, whats wrong with you guys. For real
The funny/weird thing is that historically Blizzard tends to look to curb raw gold farming because it creates currency rather than exchanges between players, but then they put in some pretty lucrative raw gold farming in Shadowlands through callings which lead to paragon caches which is even more gold.
Like just be clear here: Callings are basically 2k gold emissaries from BFA on crack because it’s literally daily. Players in BFA (myself included) literally worked towards having alt armies ready to go for 3-12 characters so whenever they popped up we could make some good change for pretty minimal work. Now we can do that daily if we want to.
The already decrease mount chances when the new expansion launches, they remove content, remove interesting items from that expansion, remove things that improve quality of life items like portals, and nerf the rewards like the gold or transmog that is possible to get.
So, yes, they feel everyone playing shadowlands should be playing shadowlands.
This is news to you?
The lead developer is a player with one of the most famous elitist attitudes known. They strongly feel anything from an expansion should have been earned in that expansion as a sign of prestige. They were the ones that introduced expansion features and openly state that features from previous expansions should be thrown away rather than continued. If they did housing, it would exist for one expansion and then have them burn down after they were done.
exactly, and they don’t nerf that because people have to play Shadowlands, so they nerf this instead, which takes more effort and not as lucrative, purely to spite people who are playing older content instead of current.
The only thing I can think of is the usual excuse of nerfing raw gold farms = nerfing lazy botters, but they’ve definitely lost money from me not subbing between content patches since old content’s no longer as fun, and I can’t be the only one.
Thing is, they usually wait for next expac when stuff has been soloable for a bit to actually roll the nerfs like this and people had plenity of time to solo. This is totally new to apply multiple nerfs to gold vendor and player power in a row between patches/releases and pretty childish to do because most of this content is not even soloable( even if it was before, now it might not be for some specs, figures) or takes too long/hard, while the above method our troll friend pointed is not touched at all, so they just happen to hate people who run older content. How about shoving that ego up their places where the sun don’t shine and actually let players who enjoy older content have fun?
I’m not really surprised with removal of stuff or “prestige”, thats okay and its a good incentive to do challenging content, but this is just spiteful, childish and stupid to do when older content already got very low drop mounts, already lowered gold values from the reductions that happened on 9.0 and it takes time to solo.
I think that a person who primarily farms old content for mog, pets and mounts while keeping to themselves is typically a crappy candidate for further engagement (aka spending money on microtransactions). They want people at cap and getting into a cycle of needing gold so they’ll either play a lot to farm it (which boosts played time metrics) or they’ll buy tokens which is money for jam.
Possibly…I’m not sure why they’d care that much on if we play current content or not. If we’re subbed we’re subbed. I mean the only way I can justify that is if they want to be able to take it to their meetings to brag about how popular callings or content X is, but I’m not sure if that really passes the sniff test since they’d have to know that pigeon holing us into doing particular content because we have know other choice isn’t a successful system.
Maybe they have some metrics they review and they don’t want transmog farming to be as lucrative as it is on top of callings. And by that image you’re looking at a 33% nerf to the farm which is significant, but doesn’t make it meaningless.
Well, this is how they operate, and their attitude has gotten worse over time, not better. I have no idea why people want to play a video game run by a development team that is like this to be honest, and the complaints I see leave me thinking: Really? This surprises you.
This is why I primarily play classic and retail is a like an insignificant side project I dabble in just because I get it for free. Although I’m not even enjoying heroic raid as much as I did. Naxxramas is actually more interesting and fun. Heck, even gold farming in classic is more relaxing and fun for some strange reason I can’t quite figure out.
But for whatever reason, some of you seem to want to continue living in this constant abusive relationship.
As a whole, I’m only really playing to make gold and collect mounts when i don’t have anything else to play. I have steam, epic games and several stuff from other companies that keeps me busy for longer. I just do wow sometimes hoping things get better, and even then i ONLY play less each time because i get busy with other stuff and i don’t find systemlands to be that great either. Its just that older content is a nice way to go for nostalgia by myself or with a few friends without any drama and we can relax. Now the devs seems to really take issue with this which is just frustrating and i decided to vent on the forums.
Edit: To add, gold making from callings on SL is indeed pretty high which means the game pays for itself with just 1-2 level 60s clearing emmisaries every 3 days.
Yes, I was really looking forward to doing solo Legion content myself because I actually left WoW at the beginning of Legion.
I’ve just been upset with retail WoW for so long that I don’t even get upset any more. I really don’t have hope that things will improve until the development team (i.e. Ian) changes. Then we might actually things take a more favorable direction. Remember that at least two of his expansions (WoD and BFA) compete for the one that was the worse. It’ll be interesting to see if Shadowlands becomes like MoP, seen as great years later, or like WoD and Cata, which still have bad reps.
I came in late right before BFA as a noob so I can see the get missing stuff angle.
See as a fresh new player I believed that crap about level the right way and not use my package boost. So…I boosted too late a too much time burned in old content, prelude was here and on to BFA.
Should have boosted day 1 to see more of legion…That char is still around and used. Elf, blood in this case, with bow. I will always have elves with bows in my char collection lol.
BFA only legion catch up I did was order halls, some mythic dungeon spam and lowest raid needed for balance of powers. SL was to be my really fun catch up. Until 9.3 it seems no luck here.
Blizzard has vast amounts of data on us, they know what type of player is more likely to spend additional money on the game and what players aren’t, i’d be willing to bet that people who don’t care about current content and keep themselves busy doing old content are at the bottom of the profitable list.
