Blizzard can't even manage to keep its legacy players

People are quitting in mass quantities and the game just keeps getting worse. No lessons have been learned, nothing is improving. The story is boring, cliche, and full of attempts to tie the new, uninspired characters to classic and beloved ones. The class design is lackluster and hasn’t been truly fun since MoP.

I gave blizzard more years than they deserved to try to right the ship, but it’s like they’re not even trying. It’s like they actually think they’ve been doing a good job lately.

Meanwhile, Final Fantasy XIV just had to temporarily suspend sales of the game to new players because it’s so insanely popular that they can’t maintain enough server space (due to pandemic-related material shortages)

FFXIV is over 8 years old, 11 years if you count the original launch before ARR… it has an identical expansion+subscription+cash shop business model, minus the extremely game ruining ability to buy in-game currency with cash.

It’s almost like quality content, story, and class design makes an MMO stay popular and it has nothing to do with an ‘outdated business model’

Where was final fantasy the last years then tho? Somewhere under a rock as no one cared because it was this good?

ff14 sub per month is actually cheaper. for USD it’s i think like $13 only a month. your basically saving $2 easily give or take taxes i mean it’s still cheaper.

as for legacy content i mean you ain’t wrong. thats why they are running SoM which imo won’t even help it at all. even when they push out wotlk it’s going to be the same issue. people are going to down LK so fast.

the biggest thing ff14 has over WoW i think is it actually appeals to it’s overall crowd being casuals. so it doesn’t matter how long you’ve played the game it doesn’t make you feel like what WoW does in the sense that your lost and confused af on what to do and all that. it baby sits you a good amount via the story. with WoW it is more old school mmorpg imo where it rushes you to end game content. that is the issue with it today. too much rushing.

Probably, because they keep calling us champion, hero every two years. Next expansion, if they call us peons, I’m pretty sure that would bring a couple hundred people back at least

I get irritated and upset sometimes. But I also appreciate the work that goes into making this game. And taht the developers do listen. It can’t all be how I want or how you want. If you need take a break, play FF. I take a break and Play “Big Fish” hunt and peck games.

They won’t because FF14 is full.

I actually just think WoW, in general, is just not “popular” nor the “flavor of the month”, for a lot of people. Too many are more interested in rushing through the game rather than just taking their time and actually enjoying the game, for what it is. Too many invest in trying to what they think is “completing” the game, that they forget that this is still a game, above all else. There’s too much emphasis on the “MMO” part rather than the “game”, itself. We need to remember, that they’re all just games, at the end of the day.

There’s no need to make them “more than that”. Enjoy what you enjoy and to hell with the others who “don’t get it”. You’re not playing for them. You’re playing for you which is all that matters, at the end of the day.

It is the long term Solo players that are the bread and butter. We long in and pay the subscription. We craft and collect and level and enjoy the game. The others come in after an expansion and run through. But they feed the development. That is what makes the game work if it was to easy, we would be saying “Now what”. Been playing since 2008?

Not to be a pessimist but it’ll be a miracle if 10.0 isn’t a downgrade from 9.0. Given the current state of things nothing to me says it’s going to be good.

My word! Such doom and gloom and nothingness lies ahead. We’re doomed! Game over man! Game over!!

What…still here staring at my ashes? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I know I’ll get pounced on for this but I am by no means convinced that 10.0 will ever happen at all.

Oh there will be a 10.0. Nothing screams cash like WoW used to do.

They will continue to cut corners though putting dozens if not hundreds of developers between projects to justify the cost of development across different products. As the popularity of WoW continues to decline, so too will the dev hours spent on it.

So it’s easy to assume 10.0 will be a downgrade. It’ll happen though. Revenue reports matter.

i don’t know ,i think it’s going to be good imo , ion and his teams can’t tank more expansions , they realized nobody care about the cosmic lore > no 9.3

They just have to take old systems from TBC/WOLTK + cool theme

Y’all have no idea how bad it was before they implemented the token, do you? With the gold sellers, the compromised accounts, the stacks of level 1 corpses placed in such a way as to advertise the gold sellers name… just terrible stuff back then. The token is infinitely better.

Horrible in my opinion.

they are already working on it since long time lol , 1 content creator who have inside in Blizzard already teased what they are doing

I agree on the features and design philosophy. The trouble is they encouraged a ton of people to come to the game who aren’t MMORPGers over the years adding things like LFD/LFR/CRZ/Sharding/Mission Tables/Garrison/etc.

When the table resets I fully expect half the playerbase to come back and the other half to leave for good. But it has to be this way to rebuild the community that once was.
