Blizzard Authenticator

I’d like to unlock my additional bag slots, but I need to download the authenticator. I’ve downloaded it on my phone, logged in… and it’s just sitting on the screen that says “setting up”. It’s not going anywhere or doing anything. So I exited the app, uninstalled, rebooted my phone, re-installed, logged back in… and it’s still just sitting on “setting up”.

Is there something wrong with the app?

Have you by chance got a limit on your data or wifi connection turned off?

No. I am connected to my home wifi (no issues, great speed and connection).

Even without wifi, I have great data too. I use Straight Talk’s $35/plan which gives 5GBs and I barely touch that since I’m connected to wifi at home and work. I use less than 1gb each month of actual data. So I have plenty available.

I’ve reset my router also just in case there were issues with it. Still can’t download.

Hey there,

I noticed you mentioned an available cellular network. Was the device tested while wifi was turned off to ensure all data went through the cell service? This would be a great way to test for a problem on the device vs a problem on the network. That way the issue can be isolated and we can provide more targeted troubleshooting.

If the problem happens on multiple networks, please reply with the following:

  • Model of device
  • Operating system version of the device (see settings > about this phone > software information)

Cheers!

Ah- I hadn’t thought to turn off my wifi. This worked perfectly! Thank you so much for your help!

I saw this while looking for something else, and it got me interested.

I’m 73 and about to get my first cell phone.

I currently have the little gizmo that you press a button on and it gives you a six-digit code to put into the security block that comes up after your password is entered. However, Blizzard doesn’t sell that anymore. Today, I found a Blizzard program that installs on iphones that seems to do the same thing.

  1. Is that correct, does that program replace the mobile certification gizmo?
  2. Do I have to turn off wifi to make it work correctly?
  3. I have the unlimited cell data plan, so not having wifi doesn’t bother me. I don’t plan on playing games on my phone.
  4. Is there a document or forum, or something, where all this is spelled out in detail? Because I have issues with my memory and need detailed guidance to set this up.

Thanks you for your help.

Yes.

Perhaps not. That’s a workaround for a specifix network issue. I use the authenticator app with wifi and it works fine.

The Authenticator uses a trivial amount of network data. Downloading the app probably far exceeds using it.

None that I can recall immediately but maybe someone with more recent experience can post some pointers.

No, but it is sometimes easier to install the Authenticator with Wi-Fi off
so it uses your data plan.
Once the installation is done. It won’t matter if you use Wi-Fi or data.

Just an FYI that unlimited data plan isn’t really unlimited. After a you’ve used a certain amt of data your carrier will start slowing down your connection.
