Blizzard announces a moba like battleground!

Not really, but they could… Make a battleground or special pvp event where it’s basically a moba. You could have people buy gear like other mobas during the match or maybe enchants so they can use the gear they already have.

yeah, thats a good point, but there’s plenty of pvp too

eh sort of. You’re attacking NPCs that are being directly contested by another player. So direct fighting is mostly harassment until someone mispositions or gets low enough HP from being harassed that the other player tries to commit to finishing them off. It wouldn’t really translate super well to WoW where a lot of classes could just fall back like 20 yards and self heal.

There’s a little moba DNA in some of the epic BGs. It’s just mostly irrelevant later in an expansion outside of the rare premade vs premade epics.

A battleground where we farm resources and there’s different lanes. We could farm Iron and Wood. There could be like elite rares and it would allow us to send NPC waves that are stronger and stronger.

And it could be in either Darkshore or Arathi Highlands.

I feel like most players that would want this would rather just play Smite

Blizzard teased a moba-like BG many years ago, but doesn’t seem to have come to fruition. Probably because it would be like Comp stomp most of the time, and the pvp aspect of it wouldn’t kick in for a bit as you would have a ‘farming’ phase of some sort to increase player power over the round from turning in something for these buffs (can’t really be gear swaps without messing everything up unless there was a ‘normalized’ starting point).

I would say it was probably more effort and work than it was worth, or they couldn’t really make the mode enjoyable during testing so they just scrapped it, in favor of other areas of development.

League of Legends fan here. I like the idea of a Summoner’s Rift. 3 lanes of objectives/towers to conquer to progress across the field, jungling for group buffs, and upgrades that can be purchased as the game progresses.

I also like the idea of an SS vs TM Howling Abyss/ARAM type game.

Would that be like AV, except there are 3 separate paths across map and no singular choke points?

Kind of, but involving the jungling aspect of Ashran. I do like the idea of conquering required objectives in order to make progress across the map, including waves of minion NPCs, and towers to destroy.

Old AV fit the bill for an epic that had many objectives. Maybe it would end up too complicated?

Unless they are hard-stop objectives, players will find a way to optimize and avoid objectives. Things need to be deadlier, and I don’t mind adding PVE aspects to PVP.

It should have ways to buff NPC’s, Turrets need to be deadly, no single choke points.

Warfront Maps have decent objectives, but who would want to go farm iron in a mine when they can go PVP in a giant team fight and brute force their way to the end objectives.

If they have Reinforcements then it will turn in a death match.

I can imagine a Phased battle, where the back line are for PVE players where they are safe from PVP and can contribute to the larger battle by providing Resources and Farming, meanwhile there’s the center Area meant for PVP and some goal in the center that would claim a “Round Victory” Like Classic Ashran, it is a persistent battle.

I think another good idea to test is a Fortnite style battle ground. Start out flying like seething shore over a giant map, gather buffs and objectives while the map shrinks, ultimately ending in a big team fight at the end.

The only moba feature that belongs in wow is the dota 2 chat wheel and tipping system (for pve too i gotta tip when someone misses a kick ya know)

They didn’t announce it officially, but they worked on it at some point: Defense of the Alehouse (DotA)

The tech from the Arathi Warfront also feels very MOBA-like and was a missed opportunity.
