Blizzard and Chained Essence of Eranikus

Bi-monthly post.

I want to preface this with I know this is an issue affecting a minority of players. But so was players vendoring their Skull of Impending Doom, Nifty Stopwatch, etc., and a vendor was added on Classic Era to buy those items back. Blizzard has now threatened to ban me if I attempt to use the ticket system again to ask if it’s possible to have this item restored to my character. The point of this post is that it is a shot in the dark in the hopes that the right eyes see the post and to discuss the issue.

So what is the deal with Blizzard and Chained Essence of Eranikus? Why was this item not added to the lost and found vendor when the community was asked what items should go on said vendor, and Chained Essence of Eranikus was one of the items named from the community.

A bit of backstory on the item is that once you get Chained Essence of Eranikus from the brazier in Sunken Temple, you now have the trinket. Nowhere in the quest text does it tell you there is a more secret, follow up quest where you turn in the trinket for an additional two quests that have some small lore before abruptly ending. Most likely a questline that was meant to be further built on later in the game but never was. The core issue with this is, if you vendor the trinket, you cannot turn in the trinket to progress on those quests. From 2004 Vanilla to 2017 Legion as it was the last time I played retail, this is the only quest to ever interact like this.

If they were worried about people “exploiting” and getting it back after restoring it, just have a true/false flag on the vendor.

If ‘The Essence of Eranikus (3373)’ is completed and ‘The Essence of Eranikus (3374)’ is not completed, let it be on the vendor. If ‘The Essence of Eranikus (3373)’ and ‘The Essence of Eranikus (3374)’ is completed, let it not be on the vendor.

How I initially lost this item was vendoring it by accident in the beginning of Classic in 2019. The Item restoration function worked partially even before, and was down the day after when I realized what I did and it was not on my list of items I could restore. Also, green items were only restorable for a few days before they fell off the restore list. In 2019, even ticketing a GM, they would refuse to restore it.

Normally, in original 2004-2006 vanilla if you ran in to this issue, a GM could just restore the item for you and you would go on your way. But on Classic, that luxury does not exist. If you accidentally vendored/destroyed the item and you cannot find it in your item restoration tab, you are effectively soft locked on these quests and cannot complete them.

don’t all quests reset upon server transfer?

I don’t believe so. That would be terribly exploitable if it was.

I know for sure when I transferred my druid from one era cluster to another nothing reset.

yup… classic+ was supposed to finish this kind of stuff :expressionless: but no, instead we got retail abilities shoved into vanilla.

i don’t really understand your complaint though. do you really need to do these two little fedex quests?

One of my goals was to do everything in Era. Like somebody that was to 100% your old playstation game because Era will always be Era. This fedex quest is the only thing left stopping me from doing that.

They created a vendor based off community feedback to add things to buy back. I was specifically asked what my input was from somebody in the Era Community that had a line of contact to the dev/QA at the time. Chained Essence of Eranikus was one that was named by several people among items like Luffa, Nifty Stopwatch, Skull of Impending doom. But it wasn’t put on the vendor.
