Blizzard and armless shield-bearing characters

New merc in D4 is missing an arm and prefers a shield. I’m not saying it’s a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

I’m just gonna hop in real quick before this thread goes to :poop:(Sorry, but you’ve mentioned Faerin. This thread is cursed now) and point out that “character who loses arm, replaces it with armament” is a pretty common trope in media.

Hell, Starcraft even had a character like that more than 10 years ago. It was just a gun arm instead of a shield arm.

I think a lot of people are just upset that Faerin and Anduin may become a couple. They’re pretty powerful together.

in starship troopers wasnt one of the recuiters a legless or robo armed guy? Id love to play a legless monk! lol

You can also buy WoW related transmog in d4. They always have crossover stuff in their games. Not that weird.

Sergent Zim, them darn bugs!

Think they are just taunting people who know anything about medieval martial arts at this point. Though I wouldn’t know d4 had an expansion if it wasnt for the launcher does it at least sorta make sense and isnt a full tower shield like wow?

Fantasy, man. Whether it’s high fantasy or dark fantasy, it’s still fantasy and that genre has been heavily influenced by the impracticality of anime over the last few decades. You can blame the Final Fantasy series. I feel they’re mostly responsible for this.

It’s like they want cyborgs, but need to keep the medieval aesthetic, so they make people with impractical weapon attachments. Sometimes it’s a gun arm if the world has guns. Sometimes it’s a blade or shield…

WoW even went far enough to include actual high fantasy “cyborgs” as a playable race. But it’s been a common trope in this category for a while. You will probably see it happen again.

Were they… not doing this before?

i mean it’s the same company that has cross overs

Arent they technically related though? I know in the monarchy they often “kept it in the family”, but still.

nah, he’s not talking about zim.

There was a guy sitting behind a desk asking carl, carmen and johnny how they did.

When johnny tells him “Infantry sir” he says, “good for you, the mobile infantry made me the man i am today” and then you see he is missing both legs in addition to a robotic arm

Honestly, a lot of armour design in WoW is much worse than Faerin and has been for a really long time.

Anduin was just named after Lothar, but he’s not actually related to the Lothar bloodline.

Even if he is, it’s so far down the line that he’s about as related to Faerin as you and I probably are from Genghis Khan.

Though to be clear, I don’t really see them as a couple regardless.

Again rule of cool kind of counters it. It isnt that being armless yet somehow bracing a shield is the only outlandish thing in the game. It is the level of outlandish combined with a stubborn refusal to make lore to explain it.

It just jumped the shark. Its like when they tried to fake rage bait the tracer sexy pose. They want it to be a controversy for free PR but are behind the times.

After concord, dust born, and others people are fatigued by hiding bad design around moral righteousness.

It’s a hand instead of an arm… but…

glares at ash from evil dead with the chainsaw hand

I say we introduce Anduin to Yrel and see what happens.

Yep, the recruiter who shook Johnny Rico’s hand and said “Good for you. The mobile infantry is what made me the man I am today” had a prosthetic arm and no legs.

EDIT: Though, requisite “that’s an arm/weapon, not a shield, which generally requires a means to brace it which can’t really be done with a shield just attached to a stump”
