Thank you for posting the article link. Looks like a good move for everyone involved. This also gives them a second studio location on the East Coast. Sad that their Spellbreak game did not get the traction they wanted, but glad the team gets to turn their skills towards another project (WoW) vs having the company close. Hopefully this helps with the lack of WoW content and scheduling.
I am also looking forward to having fresh eyes on things.
acquiring VV felt like it was a good thing for diablo2 but they still insisted on never making the lobby great again so it was all in vain not to mention doing nothing about d2jsp and the ladder being way too delayed.
gonna have to let time pass on this one. maybe it’ll be good who knows.
Spellbreak was actually a really good game that didn’t get the coverage or recognition it deserved. They killed it with the addition of bots, as is how it tends to be with most battle royale-type games, but the core gameplay was incredibly fun. This is exciting.
Like it or not Blizzard has already said they plan to keep WoW for years to come. The fact is WoW is still pretty profitable. Heck the skies of Azeroth filled with Green Dragons should be proof of that.
AOE4 is failing. Its player base has dwindled since release considerably, and the game is effectively still in early access due to their content releases.
People said that about Overwatch, and it sounded reasonable then too…
I tried Spellbreak for a while and it convinced me that battle royales as a genre were not for me. But if I ever was going to like a battle royale Spellbreak probably would have been it. So I hope their devs will also be an asset to DF and beyond.
Although I’m convinced they had a major aimbot infestation. Nobody’s that good at hitting moving targets while they are also moving themselves.
I’m skeptical this will actually improve the game. Depends on if they are increasing the number of people on the team or just backfilling losses over the last two years. The article said they’ve had trouble hiring people.
Moreover, I think WoW really started to go into the crapper when they brought over people from the Diablo team to work on Warcraft. Not sure the people from this new company will be a good fit either.
I saw this article earlier. I haven’t played Spellbreak or whatever game these devs worked on, but some of the comments I read were quite positive of the gameplay. This is good. But honestly WoW has never suffered from poor gameplay. AP systems, borrowed powers, bad storytelling… those problems abound, but pure push button > kill bad guy gameplay is something WoW does better than most games out there.
Anyway. This could definitely help, I just hope its in the areas that really really need it.
Is it? Honest question. I’m really curious why they were picked up. I could be wrong, but weren’t they involved in a magic themed battle-royale? I don’t exactly see how this translates to WoW.
I do know that there were calls for a battle-royale pvp mode… so, maybe this is the plan? But, I don’t know why you’d need an entire team for that sort of thing unless it’s going to be a big update.
