Blizzaard, please stop with all the pop-ups!

I am racing thru one of the flight courses in and a pop-up advertising some hunt I know nothing about and am certainly not involved in, breaking my concentration and blocking the center of my screen so I cannot properly see the arrows which tell me which direction I am going in next.

I am in the middle of a battle and a pop-up advertising some renown thing breaks my concentration and blocks my view so I cannot see what the heck is going on.

I am looking around an area for a tucked away npc and a pop-up advertising a World Quest keeps popping up, making that loud irritating chime every single time, completely breaking my focus and annoying the heck out of me.

Sunday night I was on a questline in the Plains, and continuous pop-ups advertising various npcs? players? something, I don’t know, are being overpowered and someone called Frykk is coming, interrupting and blocking the quest sheets I am trying to read.

I used the word advertising purposely because they feel exactly like those annoying advertising pop-ups companies use on their site to try to pressure people into buying their product without thinking about it first.

The pop-ups are not giving me information I need for what I am doing, instead they are interrupting and sabotaging what I am doing.

They are anti-immersion, anti-rp and utterly obnoxious.

So for the love of the Light, please provide an option to restrict anything that is not an error message or any other essential gameplay issue to chat. (And no, I don’t need to be told where I am either. That is what the map is for.)

That way folks who get excitement out of the pop-ups can enjoy them and folks who don’t want to be bothered won’t be.

And yes, this is a hill I am willing to die on because they are making the game unbearable for me.

And on top of all this, there’s no way to disable it with the in-game options menu. No no, if you want to banish the Talking Heads you gotta find the right add-on and install it. Why add basic options to your game when you can rely on your playerbase to bail you out?

If it wasn’t for someone on this site telling me about ‘Bequiet’, walking me thru the process of installing it and getting it up and running to get rid of the talking heads, I would have quit two days after World Quests starting popping in Legion. And I don’t mean just unsub, I mean sell everthing, delete all my characters but one and have that one standing naked in Northshire giving away gold to starting characters (Yes, I was so close I had it all planned out).

The world quest popup sound can be muted with MuteSoundFile or Leatrix Plus. Sound ID is 1489473

I share your frustration on all the other popups. As if the game wasn’t enough of a visual and audio assault, we get the 1998 internet experience layered on top of it.

Someone didn’t get the message.

Okay, so I downloaded MuteSoundFile from curseforge, stuck it in the addon file, extract it in the file so it turned from a compressed file into a file folder, exited the game, entered the game but it is still not appearing in my game.

What am I doing wrong?

Cant you banish the talking head by moving it into a less center area?

I cant tell if this is another none issue troll post or someone with some serious OCD wanting the game designed and catered around them.
Anyhow get curseforge and use an addon if its that horrible for you i guess.

That could maybe make it less obnoxious but given that there’s zero consistency in the alignment of the Talking Head “box” I have little faith that moving it would help much.

well, if its far from the center, then it will at least not block your view when dragon riding through the race course. :dracthyr_shrug:

Not sure what the OP is complaining about, I love mobile game popup trash in my MMO.

With how my UI is, there’s no where to move it that wouldn’t block something else. Anyway, doesn’t matter, I refuse to do races for 130g when they used to be worth 650g in DF. I was just agreeing with the OP that Talking Head spam sucks.

I agree with you 100% and I’ve also felt this way since Legion. The zone invasions are the absolute worse. I actually made a thread about this exact topic back in Legion but the GD was being the GD and said I was being stupid.

I moved the talking head box all the way to the left of my screen, under my party and raid frames. Makes things a bit better but I still resent being screeched at from the voice in they sky and a quest being forced on me.

Edit: I meant BfA, not Legion. For me that’s when it got really bad.

It is very disrespectful to use a serious neurological disorder, and inaccurately at that, to try to insult someone.

In fact, it is a slur and a form of ableism.

Good question. Try typing /mutesoundfile in the game and see if it appears. It kinda runs in the background.

And make sure it’s displayed in your list of addons, and checked off to run. (escape menu, then addons button)

Nope, not in list of addons and typing /mutesoundfile (or /msf) did nothing.

If that’s the case, I would try redoing the file unzipping, and verifying an unzipped file by the name of MuteSoundFile is indeed in your retail addon folder.

Did you get it from curse? That’s usually where I grab addons from.

I realize this is a total pain to get going, but mute soundfile can be used later to banish all sorts of annoying sounds. If you google “how to mute something something warcraft” you’ll often find old reddit or forum threads with the specific sound id. If you’re having trouble locating one, hit me up and I’ll try to find it.

The quest pop up window is one of the worst additions to this game they’ve ever introduced.

Not only is it annoying but it ruins any kind of immersion. Basically any NPC can pop up and start talking like you’re carrying an iPhone with FaceTime… it’s terrible if you enjoy actual immersion in the game.

Yes, exactly, that was my entire point back in BfA. I could kind of understand Magni talking to me from thousands of miles away because he was using the stupid necklace as a radio but everyone else? No way. It was dumb and didn’t make sense.

I am not sure if that was me or not, but I’ve recommended Bequiet for quite some time. Those talking heads are super annoying and found that add on long ago… It has been super nice not to see that stupid thing pop up and cover 1/2 my screen.
