Blizz, we need to talk about the drop rates for fishing upgrades

I don’t know what Blizz was thinking with these drop rates for the materials required for the harpoon and fishing net upgrades but this is insane. Based on the feedback on Wowhead and my own first hand experience, it appears the various materials required have around a 0.1 - 1% drop rate and you will need multiple of these things. WTF???

This is not fun. This is not content. I’m fine with reasonably low drop rates on things, but it’s freaking fishing upgrades for not even your main fishing method (the fishing pole), but for your fishing net and harpoon! Fishing is a niche enough activity as it is but now you’re gonna RNG out the whazoo an even nicher part of this niche???

These drop rates should be no lower than 5-10% for such an edge activity.

/signed, a disgruntled fisherman who will be bailing on getting the rest of the upgrades due to how bad this is. Player participation just went down.

i’ve had several appear in the loot window…but fail to appear in my bags.

Are you sticking to pools to fish for them? The prismatic leaper pools gave me everything I needed for the first upgrade. Haven’t bothered with the next level but it wasn’t that low of a drop %.

I do agree that it shouldn’t be such a low %.

Fisher person here!

I have all the first round of upgrades done and am working on my second round.

  1. Set all your nets you can. Those can give upgrade mats. Net upgrade is a priority given it can help other upgrades.
  2. Fish Lunkers! Those can give upgrade mats (the big ones from conch shells).
  3. Fish Prismatic Leaper pools. Those seem to have a higher drop rate than Ice fishing holes.
  4. A good fisherperson keeps their best spots

It is meant to be a gradual thing as you fish for other mats and do the usual fishing quests/activities.

I have been enjoying it and find the only thing I can’t get enough of are the darn imbu nets.

This is an old “bug” I have seen since MoP. Be careful using any addons or auto loot. Do not cast again until your loot window makes it into your bag. I am not sure if it is actually a game bug or an addon thing, but you do need to be careful.
