Blizz Request - Spell Color System

Blizz -

Now that more customization is starting to come out with player housing, can you also put together a system that lets you “spellcraft” and change the colors of our spells?

You could make this a whole mini pillar like pet battles and make old zones relevant again if players have to collect specific materials around the world to mix and create specific unique colors?

Maybe some materials require you to solve a minigame or perform certain tasks to make the nodes visible in the world? For example, a player may need to find research papers throughout the world that when studied together gives the location of a special mineral that the player can use to create a vibrant spell color etc. and maybe that minerals nodes become visible once the player has learned it? (random node spawns so that wowhead can’t just disclose placement all the time).

It’s kinda surprising they haven’t implimented this tbh.

The reception to Warlock Green fire gave them all the use case they could ask for to suggest this would be wildly popular.

Probably an engine thing I guess.

But City of Heroes was way ahead of its time when it came to power customization, I’d love to have that in WoW.

I’ll have to google that system because I never played that game.

The Fel green was so good that I just want purple void fire for my mage and blue/red fire blending together!

I expect Paladins to be able to do a questline next expansion to acquire Void colored spells so that we can be Void Knights.

Yes, I said it: I expect it. Because I want it. And it would make sense. And then give it to Velfs innately and they can then be the purple version of of Paladins the way they should be.

I mean, there is a velf npc that uses holy abilities. I just want options for all pallies and really all classes, even if we’re the only ones that can see the different colors.

because WoW is a social game, I think it’s important for others to be able to see the customizations…if this was a SP game I would agree but I think part of the fun of being in an MMO is sharing the shinnies with others.

Listen, I’m trying to compromise, okay?! I want everyone to be able to see my spell colors but if it’s only me or nothing, I’ll take only me being able to see it. They could even use the glyph system for it that they’ve seemingly abandoned.

after seeing what they’re capable of doing with player housing under such an old engine, my faith is restored that they can do whatever they put their mind (and resources) to lol.

They are capable, and they have been listening more to what players want, but until I see it, I won’t believe it. I do hope to be proven wrong! Elune themed spells for my nelf priest would be great! Void themed hunter abilities for this character!

I understand the want for customization but this can also be griefing in some content. They already have a HORRIBLE time with visual clarity in dungeons and raids, having people change their spells to match the clutter makes things worse. Just the devil’s advocate side of the argument.

This is me hoping Shadow gets a questline to change their spells Holy/Radiant colors. :joy:

Can turn the Shadowfiend into a Lightspawn… may as well go all the way.

It was so fun, I remember making a range DPS that hurled green/white energy bolts at people… good times lol.

I can imagine a bunch of priests floating around as bright blobby burning white lights emanating healing :sun_with_face:

Not being able to do a “green fire” quest for dark shaman void themed spells on a shaman has always made me disappointed.

I would love more customization and character expression like this in WoW.

This can be done through glyphs. I know disc priest can change color of their penance . To bad they gave up on the glyph system

For those players that aren’t sure how Glyphs work, can you provide a quick breakdown?

Its like this… enchant you can buy on the auction house. You can make them if you are in a profession( i forgot) . Once you buy it from the AH or make it, you can modify curtain spells. Like youre a mage so you can change the apperance of your mage table using a glyph.

Why?

If you use light, your spells should be yellow… ish.

If you use arcane, your spells should be blue and pink… ish.

And so on.

Personally, I would rather they use any time that could be applied to changing the look of spells to making spell skins for race/class combos that make no sense.

For instance, creating a Pharmakist skin (yucky green and yellow) for undead priests.

Pet battles are not a mini-pillar.

They are a side game like M+.

WoW is a MMORPG, not a mobile game.

Now that idea is clever.

:cookie: for you!

There are multiple classes that already take advantage of this, like monks with some transmog options, etc. Paladins should be able to go silver, gold, red (or purple I suppose too), I don’t know why this sort of thing isn’t more common. It’s got to quite easy to program in, the only thing I’m assuming is some sort of whine with respect to PVP and recognizing class based abilities, but they could just remove the option for PVP too.
