I love that we have the ability to switch the sex of our characters in the barber shop.
If we get bored of the model & animations and overall role-playing element of one version, we can switch them into the opposite sex, play that way for bit, then switch back, etc. Great way to switch it up, in theory.
There is one problem stopping me from actually doing that: I like the way my customization is set up, and if I change the gender, I would have to go through every single customization setting and redo everything every single time I do it.
Solution: allow us to save pre-made customizations and switch between them in one click. We already have that feature for transmog, where we can save pre-made outfits and switch between them in one click without changing every item individually. Why not do that for character customizations?
What are you talking about? I’m not asking to allow us to do something new, I’m asking for a more efficient way to do something we already can.
But since you brought it up, yes, if we’re talking about good game design, we should be able to switch races freely, too. It’s mostly a cosmetic choice. Obviously it won’t happen though because Blizzard likes charging $25 for it.
In SWTOR you can change your character’s physical attributes: height, weight, hair style, skin, eye color, all other fine customizations including skin complexion, scars and more. You can even change your species completely. You do this by visiting an “Appearance Designer” terminal, for a number of Cartel Coins - a currency obtained both in game and for RL money on BioWare’s Cartel Market.
Any character of any level can use the Appearance Designer. There are no restrictions of any kind, and this feature was introduced very early after the game released, probably in 2012.
I do agree, it would be nice if Blizzard would add this feature to WoW.
PS: On the other side of the coin, SWTOR has a pretty poor “Outfitter” system, to allow you to set up individual sets of armor (and recently, weapons), which you can then equip by just clicking on that outfit. It’s a clunky and expensive feature, I typically only have 2 or 3 outfits for most of my toons, except for a couple of main ones, where I can splurge a bit. This is a far cry from WoW’s much superior Transmog system. FFXIV also has a similar “Glamour” system, but again this is not as nice and rich as WoW’s Transmog, which I love. In short, each game has its pluses and minuses. Maybe someday soon there’ll be a “perfect” MMO we can all subscribe to.
So to get this straight: you’re OK with everyone being able to do it for $25, but doing it for free is “No. Just no”. That’s some next level stockholm syndrome.
That’s an addon, as someone pointed out above. But yeah, it does solve the problem. Still, it would be great to have that feature in the game by default.
