Not really. They’re not interested in test-driving some fresh college grad. Neither should they be for an IP of this age. They want and should hire someone with real world experience and credentials. Not someone who has a literature degree who may have no passion or knack for this kind of fantasy or leadership.
Anyone who knows anything about hiring knows that asking about a degree will come up in screening but clearly the actual factor they care about (and they should) is the post-college experience. They want someone who has a track record of success to show for it. This is a high-ranking position with I assume commensurate pay and they’re trying to get someone who is not an unknown but a known quantity.
It is. Especially this part: Blizzard Entertainment is a global company committed to growing our employees along with the business. We offer competitive benefits and strive for a healthy work / life balance. We foster a deeply collaborative and creative environment, a diverse and inclusive employee culture, and training and opportunity for professional growth. Our people are everything, and we are dedicated to creating the most epic entertainment experiences… ever.
I am very happy to see Blizzard take diversity and inclusion seriously.
Because everyone is blaming him for things he didn’t do. The one that set everything in motion for sylvanas was that alex dude(correct me if im wrong).
from my understanding they blamed him after he left the company. after he was found out to be a sexual harasser no less. so they shifted the blame to the evil man
Well, wasn’t he responsible for the story when he was working here? These things are already developed for a long time, so how is it shifting if he was directly involved leading to what we have now?
alex was one of many there doing this stuff it wasnt just him. but hes the black sheep that got kicked out for being a harasser, its easier to shift blame to someone that isnt in a position they can defend themselves in any way / in any aspect
Idk what covenants have to do with story, or what about wod you’re referencing. But if I’m remembering correctly, they already have a lot of things planned out before they make it to the game. Even the expansion after dragonflight.
they like to say “oh, the story is planned all these years and all these expansion before like ten years.”
in reality, they work on the next expansions outline maybe once expansion x.0 launches, they have a small team continue on content updates, and then theres the preproduction and production of the skeletons and then the meats and potatoes of the next expansion
You’re remembering correctly, they have definitely SAID that while doing damage control in the past. But Warlords of Draenor(WoD) and Shadowlands have proven they very obviously don’t plan that far ahead as far as the story goes just in case they have to cut an expansion short. They may have bullet points on what could potentially happen in several future expansions, but these two expansions specifically have shown us they don’t plan out the actual story beats and writing until actual production, and even then they keep it as generic as possible for as long as they possibly can.
it’s like this for every game. do you really believe they have a working story treatment for an expansion 5 years from now? when even they don’t know if it will be there 5 years from now? shadowlands is like the best example of a storyline pulled out of their gluteus maximus. they base their stories off of player reception throughout an expansions life cycle.
Like seriously, how anyone can buy the “they wrote this all 10 years ago” schtick floors me. You really think this is the direction Metzen wanted the story to go and laid this all out for them to do? Really?
I dont know about their timelines, but it was said (either by Chris Metzen or Ion) some time ago that their development and design teams are working on a future expansion at least two years prior to its release. While things can be (and are) cut and lesser content added or changed in .5 patches, I doubt the story is changed very much because too much of the active content is tied to the story.
they start working on the basic skeletons of an expansion and story when x.0 expansion launches. so 2 years after that expansion releases the next expansion comes out…
