Blizz is diluting and destroying our class

Blizz are you seriously going to allow trolls be pallies? In vanilla the biggest joke was the idea of a cow paladin and making that a reality has insulted and diluting our order enough. Now troll pallies? This has to be a nightmare. No way blizz would be stupid enough to allow this…

I agree with the OP. How is a LOA that is dark voodoo magic able to give the ability to be a paladin. It’s bad writing and is nothing more then pandering to horde player’s crying that they only have two paladin opinions. News flash you only have paladins because of all your crying in vanilla. FYI the cow paladin lore is just as weak and lazy lore also. But the sun was SO bright that day. Super dumb.

You seem troubled, what’s the point of you making these threads? Tauren Paladins have been in the game for 8 years now, so I’m not sure why you’re crying about them now. Zandalari troll Paladins existed in Throne of Thunder so I’m not sure why you didn’t expect this to happen as well. You might not like the lore, and that’s fine, but the lore behind them makes sense in their own respective races, neither of the two are that classic Christian Paladin that you see in Humans, Dwarves, and Draenei which revolve around a primary “Faith in the Light”. Meanwhile Tauren Paladins worship a Sun God, which is a more ancient Faith that is more Polytheistic, essentially the same way that Trolls have Loa, which are Wild Gods that can bestow power to their subjects (One being the power of Light). While Blood Elves stole the ability to manipulate the Light from a Naaru, later reclaiming the Sunwell allowed them to tap into the power naturally, making them more “true” paladins.

Tldr; Tauren Paladins for life my dude.

That still doesn’t mean that there lore isn’t complete garbage. I mean think about it we were coming off of wotlk where they just watched Trion Fordring break the Lich kings bonds and shatter frostmorne. If their story would have been that they were inspired by what they seen in Trion Fordring leading them to further seek an understanding of the light. That would have been somewhat of a good lore story. But instead they had them blinded by the Sun one day when they came out of their tent and suddenly they were paladins. Is just a dumb story to be completely honest.

Even more proof that some people are just looking for things to be offended by…

When they became paladins, the entire world changed. Was it lore when deathwing broke the world? Was it lore when monks taught everyone their method? Was it lore when we went to a new universe? Was it lore when we defeated the legion? Or was all that continuing the story? Not everything can come from lore without recycling everything. Sometimes, new things need to happen to progress the world.

Of all the problems our class suffers from right now, this is what you choose complain about? In a time where our gameplay is slow, shallow, completely lacking in complexity and excitement, you choose to complain about this?

We have bigger fish to fry, buddy.

Also, Troll pallies have been lore since vanilla, they just weren’t playable because they weren’t part of the Troll tribes that were part of the Horde, so stop acting as if this is something new they just pulled out of nowhere.

Pretty much this, so many problems with BFA and Pallies and you choose to complain about trolls being able to be paladins. Lol.

Best post in the thread.

It’s a business decision and that’s it. They’ll cash in on everyone wanting to play the new race, lots of people will reroll.

I couldn’t think of anything more repulsive than a troll paladin but at the ene of the day it’s about cashing in on race changes, nothing more.

There is something of importance to actually draw from this thread, in fact the topic itself. One of the biggest pet peeves I have had is the other races that are able to be Paladin. Not because I don’t want them to be Paladin but because I feel they are totally underrepresented and the ascetic just doesn’t work out for them that well.

Example
Silver Hand Paladins were Human and Dwarves. The Paladin class at Launch and even Burning Crusade had a HUGE difference between the Blood Knights and the Silver Hand Paladins.

I think what we need to see happen at some point is animation differences between the races more.

Silver Hand
-Human
-Dwarf
These two are well represented.

Hand of Argus
-Draenei: One could infer they could get different animations to better match what they are doing at times. Though it fit’s for them better than it does Horde.

Army of the Light
-Lightforged Draenei: Maybe the racial mount should be the Talbuk.

Dark Iron Dwarfs
-Could use more fire

Horde
The Horde however need the most attention to detail, what the Alliance gets in terms of xmog options and ascetic just doesn’t do too well with the Horde I have always felt. The best we had at one point was Seal of Blood with the Blood Elves and how they approached their story and role in the world with quests. I sorta feel that Legion really took away the diversity when it came to our Order Hall in a sense and left them hanging.

Blood Elves: I feel their animations need to be more centered around how they handle the Light. They need probably a few animation tweaks to better fit their culture. I would also suggest updating the old Thalassian Charger mount as well. Armor options seem to be decent for the most part to match the theme as well as their Tabard.

Sunwalkers: These are individuals who literally draw power from a “sun god”. Nothing I have seen thus far reflects any culture you would find here. Animations and armor very rarely match and I feel the Tauren aside from their mount have been VERY VERY neglected. Personally they need an entire identity overhaul with animations and armor options. I wouldn’t be butthurt to see a quest show up for “Heritage” to pay homage to the Sunwalkers. They deserve something.

Prelates
The Zandalari make sense as a Paladin because what they effectively do is draw power from the Loa and become their servants like Silver Hand paladins draw from the Light. I would like to see them not follow the same mistakes as the Sunwalkers and looking at the next raid and their heritage armor as well as a few other places they have decent mog options. Animations could probably work better for them.

I guess a way to look at Sunwalker and Zandalari animations is instead of them reading from a book they could be channeling from a “sun” object or something that reflects the Loa respectively.

So would I say Blizz is diluting and destroying our class? I would say they are neglecting the diversity of the class. Paladin by title only however what faith and subsection you branch out to like any Paladin in fantasy style games needs to be properly reflected. Like many who play d20 games like myself will know there are vast differences between lets say a Paladin of Kord and a Paladin of Pelor. In both faith and ascetics. They both draw from a deity or power source for their power and follow rules like a Paladin but the culture and how they function are very different. Just like how a Knight of the Silver Hand or High Exarch Turalyon are different in various ways and how they both are vastly different from a Sunwalker.

That being said I would like to throw in: If the subcultures of Paladins were to be explored for diversity it would be fun to see an option for Humans and maybe Dwarves to get a “Scarlet Crusade” option and get animations based on them if they went that way. Seeing how the Night Elf quest line to get the dark eyes came out pretty good, perhaps options that can better reflect the cultures of Azeroth and beyond could come on the table eventually.

I agree. I wish armor had the same effect with all different race/ class combos that DHs had in legion. Literally everything was a bare chest, but none of that was available to any of my other leather wearers, not in that form.

You are called steakadins FYI.

We’re actually refered to as Beefadins, or Holy Cows.

Deathwing was a new threat. I’m not saying to take cow paladins out of the game or to stop trolls. My whole pet peeve is with lazy writing. I want them to have a story that makes good sense. Every class that could be a paladin, up to the addition of the tauren were in some way using the holy light.

This still makes more sense than the Tauren paladin lore as anyone can learn how to kick and punch.

There is nothing wrong with adding to the lore or making new lore. I just think that the last several changes to make these additions were lazy and weak story telling. Again I have no issue with new class comps.

Everything is in some way related to the lore of this games history. Horde being the only ones with shaman and Alliance being the only ones with paladin, is just one of the many things that made the two factions so unique and is something I think must of us long time player’s miss.

I’ve played since 1.1, and I don’t really miss faction based classes. Deathwing wasn’t a new threat, he has been around since the war of the ancients, when he was corrupted, and changed to deathwing. Just because you don’t agree with the lore, doesn’t mean it’s wrong, or lazy. I thought it was awesome when they found a way to work in tauren pallies.

If you want to bring up inconsistencies, why aren’t all DKs horde? They are all undead. Why was the alliance okay with that, but not with letting the forsaken visit their families? Why does everyone blame orcs for following the legion, when the eredar were the first to follow sargeras?

The original Death Knights led by Teron Gorefiend ( biggest disappointment in WoD…) were very very different from the one’s Arthas created which split into the Ebon Blade.

I understand deathwing was not a new threat. I should have chosen a different way of phrasing my post, as I was referring to the release of cata.

Again I don’t care that they were added. it was just a weak and lazy story behind there inception.

And you agreeing with it doesn’t make it good or insightful. But in the end this whole discussion has really just been our two different opinions and how we disagree. You like the story and I do not. Let just agree to disagree.

Yes, that was all lore. Lore isn’t just the past. It’s the actual story. Now there are things that break lore, that don’t fit into the way the story is written. That is different. But what you are asking… the story is the lore. So yes it does grow, it does continue. Lore is not just the history. Adding new things is adding to the lore.

But yes, there should have been a better, stronger story of how they were added in. Changes of any type need to make sense. Not just happen because someone felt like it. Make a believable story of why something happens, get good writers to write it in and make it happen.
