Blizz, if you're wondering why you're losing players, this is why

/rant

As a casual scrub, my only sources of decent gear progression ilvl gear is from world bosses (lmao they hardly ever drop anything), the mythic weekly and the TW weekly. Here’s the problem with that. RNG. But I don’t just mean any old RNG. I mean “kick you when you’re down RNG”.

I experienced this just recently after completing the current TW weekly, only to receive a duplicate trinket of same ilvl that is unique-equipped. Now look, I’m happy to vendor a downgrade armor piece if its a new mog. At least I got a mog out of it. But to get a dupe trinket that I can’t even equip??? Yea. That’s just plain old disrespect and waste of my time and feels like trash.

Now before you all get on your high horses, you should admit that Blizz finally recognized this as a legit problem by virtue of the fact that the Vault exists in the first place. And that’s great for those who do rated, m+ and raid. But for the rest of us, there’s nothing. Butpkis. Experiences like this are…dare I say… A SLAP IN THE FACE!

Not happy :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Edit: Remember folks. If your argument is to overly and unecessarily gatekeep 270-280 ilvl gear from players like me, then you’re part of the problem.

I think Blizzard’s rng algorithm looks at the slot that would be the smallest possible upgrade and rewards an item for that slot. Happens to me enough that I just don’t bother with tw anymore, unless I want the badges for something.

I think the worst RNG for this game has to be for dual wielding classes.

My only real source of getting a weapon has to come from PvP.

But I’m also doing World quests and World bosses and getting duplicate gear all the time. This is why I like being able to upgrade my gear with the current system. And honestly it’s just high enough for me to feel good about my gameplay.

I’m not looking to push high level content.

RNG on stuff like this is a garbage system.

You should be rewarded a token where you can buy what you need from a vendor.

I think there are many more reasons than just casuals and gearing.

  • Arbitrary resource grinds like azerite, anima, etc.

  • More mobile-centric metrics-driven systems designed to waste your time. (Mission tables, etc. stuff that literally is “Non content”.

  • World quests not dropping worthwhile rewards and world quests taking longer to do on average compared to Legion.

  • Players feeling like their time isn’t respected ^ see above.

  • Lackluster storytelling.

I’m sure there are more, and others that people can list. Especially PVPers. I don’t believe that Shadowlands saw a new battleground. Largely reworked/revamped old ones.

I dont know what they were thinking with these.
Less world quests than before. Less rewards than before. Less rep than before. Takes three times as long as before.

And this was meant to be good engaging game design?
It just made me stop wanting to do them.

This is why I think the Dinars were done at the start of S4: They’re testing the waters for a more traditional Token based system, similar to the Badges in Wrath.

They already made it known the Vault is going to remain, but I’m hoping they incorporate some sort of Token system in DF alongside it. Maybe one for clearing a wing of a raid or a Heroic+ dungeon for a lesser token or something like that! A way to progress when RNG is really against you, and it can be really against you!

That’s what I mean by metrics. Due to their slumping numbers they wanted you to just spend more time in the game regardless of whether you were actually having fun.

If you wanted to try and keep pace/not fall behind with the stupid covenant energy, rep, etc. You ended up devoting so much of your time to the nebulous filler that added nothing of significance. When you could have been spending that time in a dungeon, etc.

It felt more like playing a mobile game and World of Warcraft became World of Chorecraft. Then you factor in Boregast which on paper could have been great, but could be a tedious slog. (Depending on race/class). It was honestly content I maybe did a handful of times for the few quests that required it and I never touched it again.

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe s@#%

To be fair, if you’re not participating in Raids, M+ or Rated PVP you don’t need to be that well geared to really be able to do stuff. Granted I can understand the frustration of continuous bad RNG… RNGesus giveth and RNGesus taketh away

The OP isn’t complaining about the quality of loot, they’re complaining about getting loot they can’t even use.

This isn’t a “I want mythic raiding gear for kicking a squirrel!” thread.

I’ll keep saying it this is a prime example why Base level gear should be obtained in dungeons and quests and able to be upgrade via a currency all the way to I’d say heroic raid ilvl if not mythic. The currency would drop on quests and dungeon/raid/M+ bosses. The harder the content the more the currency. so solo players “over time” can still get equivalent gear as raiders. Raids and arena can still drop gear (requiring less currency to upgrade to max) but the benefit of Raiding/ Arena is the transmog and more currency to upgrade gear faster.

That would mean if you got an LFR trinket instead of needing to find ANOTHER of the same trinket each raid tier you could upgrade it via currency. I see no down side. If you receive no loot in a raid you still get currency allowing you to upgrade items.

Your words, not mine. I’m just saying that if you don’t run that sort of content you don’t really need high ilvl gear. Can’t say it isn’t about quality at all though, can you? I mean, if world bosses and weeklies are your only source of normal-heroic gear you want something good to drop from them.

Like I said though, I can understand the frustration of bad RNG.

… obviously because I said it. Not sure what your point is here.

The OP isn’t asking for high level gear, they’re asking to be able to use the reward from a quest. If this trash system is giving you an item that’s unique-equipped and you already have that item, you just wasted your time. The OP is asking Blizzard to stop wasting their time.

Yes because unlike you I read and understood what the OP is asking for.

Either you are not getting OP’s thread

Or are purposely gaslighting for sake of trolling

If you can already run M0 when “forced” by the weekly. You are more than capable of running 2s, which will give you decent gear, then using the valor from the runs and callings to upgrade. Just sayin

Erase the word casual and just use the word scrub. Casuals can participate in all forms of content. You choosing to only do open-world content has nothing to do with you being a casual. You could easily do LFR, BGs, or even M0 even as a scrub.

That cute OP , when you get three braces from the vault that is a duplicate of what you have , then we can talk about bad Rng.

Yes. I would say the biggest contributor to unhappiness while playing this game is the garbage way that we get our gear in general. RNG needs to go.

I PvP for gear… Blizzards loathing for a large chunk of their playerbase (solo/casual) because they don’t play the way and what content Blizzard wants them to play is well beyond ridiculous.

Blizzard is out of touch and strangely bias to what they consider “End game” content.
