these guys call them self project ascension on facebook ads… they are basically saying they are a mod to warcraft and have private servers. they are making money off your game. please ban the hackers/modders as anyone that downloads the game gets virus’d. their website is project-ascension

I just want blizz to sue them so I can have a topic to giggle at for a few moments.

blizz shut down all private servers thats why they made classic wow. they own it they make the money off it. not these stupid private modders.

Whenever I see an ad for them, I have a kneejerk “Bruh this terrible mobile game is using WoW assets and music? That’s crazy.” reaction, and then I see it’s a private server and I immediately stop caring

I personally don’t want them to get sued but advertising their Private server on Instagram, Facebook, and through targeted YouTube ads was the stupidest move they could ever make. Literally advertising on some of the most-used sites on the internet using Blizzard’s material.
That’s why I have never gotten invested in private servers, they always die.

usually more legit places that do this verify file integrity. Otherwise they don’t get paid. And as several users AV report back to the AV company they are on blacklists. So now…they really aren’t getting paid.

So it be on the user to follow basic protocols. Most basic being check MD5 hashes. When one makes files like these you post your MD5 has so users can check it at a minimum.

Only 1 thing can make that hash. If you were to pull this down, change the word “the” to “THE” somewhere in the files it is a new hash. several lines of viral payload will definitely make a new hash.

Modders tend to live off their name. Good modders will hash their stuff to protect that name. Its takes seconds and is a low level check.

Hash not matching up that means the user got it not from the right source and now has “added features”. That’s on the user at that point.

Ascension is a neat idea but they can’t be trying to make money off of it. It’s effectively a mod.

They’re going to get themselves in trouble if they aren’t careful. They’re definitely overreaching here.

They do Youtube ads as well.

At first I thought I was watching an actual WoW ad.

If you ban Private Servers then a lot of YouTube WoW videos you watch every day or week would simply vanish. Most video producers use Private Servers so they do not have to deal with players (fans) messing with them while they are making the content we all love.

I am actually thinking about running a Private Server of my own. I have the hardware to do it.

Why people want to ban things they do not understand is unbelievable, to me.

Nobody likes a snitch, OP.
