Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

I would if those companies presented as pro-china

If what??

Look at their product mix and countries of origin and tell me they do “present as pro-China”. Do you need the fish slapped in your face to know it’s a fish?

I mean, we’re not upset with the literal thousands of companies using products manufactured by people paid like 20 dollars a day to work their fingers bloody ungodly hours at a time, but we’re supposed to picket Blizzard for taking money away from someone who was told not to directly start drama with the biggest nation on the planet but then did anyway?

By pro-China I obviously mean anti-Hong Kong. To my knowledge those companies have not openly sided with China against the people of Hong Kong.

wait…
us pop = 327.2 million people < china pop = 1.386 billion people. Tencent owns 5% of Activision. All of the NA could quit all blizzard games and it blizzard would still make a profit.

It’s a convenience that - I’ll speak only for myself - I have to be able to “pick and choose,” or enjoy the perception that I can pick and choose, from which nations/business I purchase goods. It’s definitely a bourgeoisie kind of thing, but I’m guilty of it, too.

in 2018 Acti-Blizz made $7.5 billion, out of that only $1 billion came from Asia

$3.8B was NA, and $2.6B was EU

So your math is way off.

Not everyone in China buys Acti-blizz products, you should look into how demographics studies work.

What, precisely, do you think will happen if you do this? If you aren’t being “disruptive” and just holding a sign, do you think you’re going to get ejected from the convention?

The guy whose banning started this kerfuffle was being disruptive. For any of us to even be in a similar situation, we’d have to be up on stage while a presentation was going on. And then I can pretty much guarantee that you would be thrown out…and rightfully so.

You do know that people can be removed from the convention for creating signs that don’t observe the terms of agreement, right?

There’s a reason you don’t see people holding signs with ‘Trump 2020’ or a crude drawing of male anatomy on TV. There are several camera feeds to choose from + short delays between what we at the con experience- versus what you get on stream-explicitly to scrub something undesired. Then they are tossed out.

But please, feel free to buy a 250$+ ticket, transport, and lodging to risk a stunt- instead of enjoying a love of blizzard games with your fellow con-goers.

You will be removed from the premises… I can promise you that

Cool, neither has Blizzard though. They banned Blitzchung for a blatant violation of the tournament’s published competition rules. Period:

We don’t know what will happen, that’s why we’re curious. Either it will do nothing but help spread some awareness of Hong Kong (a win), or Blizzard will do something stupid and out themselves even more as supporters of Winnie the Pooh’s little kingdom, also a win.

You are correct don’t get me wrong. But there is more profit potential in China.

Any corporation that does business with them knows their stances on Hong Kong. They know about the detention camps, the horrific human violations.

If every corporation stood in solidarity against China, maybe it would dent their profit margins enough to enact real change. But you’d need every corporation to do so. The Houston Rockets lost a lot of money by standing in solidarity with HK, and they now are trying to retract and get China back because of all the money they lost.

its like my father in law said, if you want to save a dollar now by buying China made instead of American made you’ll pay for it down the road.

Haha no it’s california man. People are VERY vocal over here about world politics.

Like what? Enforcing the rules of their convention/tournament that you agreed to when you signed up, or bought a ticket?

Point to me where in their convention that it says you can’t wear Hong Kong iconography

You make a valid point. It would be interesting to see people protest communists in the land of socialists.

Blizzard shouldn’t bend the knee to a communistic government. China has gotten a little too big for their britches.
