I think they moved (apologized) quickly enough, there’s hardly any news coverage. Anyway they’ve already made their choice, it’s no use second gussing.
Suppose China’s willing to give HK democracy, can it be simply given? People won’t appreciate something that comes too easily. The democracy must be gained through struggle, and then when you finally get it, can you only have the maximum satisfaction.
I’m really tired, it’s all drama. To occupy people’s mind around the globe. Does China care about HK? Does China care about Taiwan? The south china sea? The people may believe they care, but they’re really just along for the show.
So I play the game, I have to be subjected to this -beep- show (admittedly I can choose not to see this), I don’t know if I can log in tomorrow (admittely I can use a VPN). The stupidest thing is, we all know how this will end, exactly like everytime this kind of thing happens: the conspiracy of the imperialists thwarted, the values of the freedom world prevailed.
Not much of an argument considering these companies know the risks they are getting involved with. If it wasn’t this incident, it will be another, possibly one completely out of our hands. I feel bad for those people, I do, but that was their choice, no one else’s. Not operating in a country that can freely just shut you down and make you disappear is the best way to negate those risks.
Companies are under legal obligation to make more money. I don’t think this is understood enough. Don’t blame the company for following its nature, blame the lawmakers.
Blame the politicians who enabled the chinese government in the first place.
I didn’t blame the company for being a company, I said it was their choice to take on those risks. Trying to push the blame for what happens to them over onto others is dumb. People shouldn’t have to tip toe around issues just to make sure they stay nice and secure while making their big bucks.
They want that money, they need to be prepared for the cost of obtaining it.
And they should leave California if they don’t care for U.S. laws and just censor from another country. Just move to China Actision-Blizzard, I’m sure you won’t have a problem setting up shop there. I mean, you’re doing the bidding of a communist government so there’s nobody to stop you from doing whatever you want there.
This is true until you break the law. In the United States companies get fined. Google and Facebook were both fined $5 Billion each for violating U.S. law. So yes, they can do what they want but if they do it from inside the United States they should be prepared for the consequences. Don’t think you’re going to sit in California and control your censorship empire from there while you’re being protected by U.S. laws and get away with it. Trump can’t even block people on Twitter because it’s against the law.
Then I have problematic news for you, a lot of electronic and chip-related stuff is from China. Might wanna have a look at your computer parts to make certain not a single part of any component is from China
I just made up? Are you even aware of what happens in China? Why do you think they put out this apology that they “uphold the honor of the country”
You think China’s secret police and actions against “dissent” are made up? Whew. Become a platform for political talk like that and you are very much put at risk of reprisal, it’s why the ban was so swift and complete and why the stream was cut.
Wait did their reply at the end say "our country. " ? When the hell Did Blizzard move to China? As far as we all knew, their asses were still in California, which is located in the United States.
I hadn’t heard about the NBA debacle until this Blizzard one, but I was really surprised to hear there was even a market for basketball in China. They have a pretty racist track record, you wouldn’t think they’d be down with a sport that has so many people of colour.
Then again, maybe China’s just too busy hating its own people right now.
It was from Blizzard office over there in Asia, aka the people with the gun to their head over this matter
People are very quick to say they acted wrongly, but it was the only decision to make if they did not want to be seen as complicit by China. Having yourself or your family targetted for being a political platform against China is not a happy fun time.
