It’s only about pandering to Chinese market and investors, all underlying morals and politics have been tossed to the side in favor of plactating a group that constitutes a very sizable portion of Blizzard’s consumer base and revenue generation. There’s no real stance other than “we like money” and I guarantee you that Blizz will rescind this ban if this massive PR blow to an already highly distrusted company translates into losing more money than is worth (it probably won’t)
Who cares anyways, Blizz has been pandering to China for about 2 decades
They do hate the truth. Here’s some truth for ya, nobody cared, when it happened to smaller individuals. We’re only pretending to care to make ourselves feel better. When actuality, when the next spotlight shines on something else, this will be yesterday’s news. So, really, nobody cares
don’t have to imagine, that’s precisely what happened when anyone said they didn’t like him. people would start frothing and ‘racism’ would pop up every now and then.
that’s the main reason i would enjoy cali splitting from the us. the same thing would happen to it.
I’m usually against politics on this forum. However, this is an interesting cross section of politics and Blizzard gaming in particular. I don’t mind people are stating opinions. Personally I won’t weigh in with another post, I’ll just say I’m honestly surprised that anyone from a non oppressed country would side with a Chinese corporation.
I’d like to state for the record that I do in fact hate the truth. I much prefer when people lie to me and I like to lie. RL is so boring, make up a little fiction. Now I can’t speak for the whole community…wait, yes I can. We had a vote and I was elected as the community spokes person. So yes, the whole issue about these forum posts is we hate the truth.
This HK’s boy’s political cause is easy to side with, David vs Goliath underdog cause.
Makes everyone siding with him feel like a hero because it comes at no real personal cost.
Anyway, what he did was a political act. If Blizzard permitted that, what would happen if someone did the same, this time politicizing the cause of oppressed White supremacists?
America lecturing China on human rights long ceased being a thing. Trump merely brought that into sharp effect.
To everyone who is ragging on Blizzard’s stance, would you say the same if it was a white supremacist or ISIS supporter who used a gaming tournament to make a political statement, and got banned? Or is it only censorship when you agree with the person?
I don’t have a problem with them not wanting to publicize him more. I don’t have a problem with them banning him from next years event.
The problem was with taking away money he already earned. That and firing their interviewers for asking reasonable questions is not only wrong, it’s a huge PR blunder.
Simple reason for me. I play this and other games to get away from politics and the real world. Already politics is spilling over into sport. I can certainly see why Blizzard want to keep it out of their esports events. While the conspiracy theorists are going for it, I personally don’t see it as appeasing China or making a judgement call of the right or wrong of the politics of the situation. I simply see it as keeping politics out of their events. Which was stated in their entry terms and conditions.
