Blizz, Hong Kong, Freedom of speech, lets have an Adult discussion

Yeah there’s that too. See, another reason why there’s a time and a place for it. But since he stated he’s an avid supporter already he’s gotta have people behind him so hopefully they’ll be alright.

I don’t think that i ever saw a thread explode in size like this before. It goes to show that people are aware of the world around them and will speak up when they see injustice.

See blizzard is a private company and while they are within their rights to punish him they are also within their rights not too. Blizzard is simply a coward and now to some degree complicit.

You mustn’t have been around during May 2015. Now that was this forum exploding. Heck, there are still longer and more intensive threads about in-game flight and Pathfinder.

Blizzard merged all the threads talking about the same issue together was why.

Me, I am just here because I am enjoying the conversation with Velara, and to point out to people that the Moral West is not as perfect as we’d like it to be.

Idk why were talking about the US in a thread about China/Blizzard. Lots of strawmen and whataboutisms goin on. I say we set fire to this field of strawmen.

You got me.

Because Blizzard is caught in the middle of a diplomatic incident, between pleasing China and their customers.

Look, I’m from Australia, and here we deal with China and USA both all the time.

Yes there are longer overall threads but they are weeks or months old. But not too many that hit 7k posts in under 12 hrs like this one has.

Anyhow thats not really the point. The point is that the playerbase is fired up in a big way.

Definitely more productive than setting fire to all your Blizzard games lmao

Historically? DQ from the tournament they were in and that’s about it.

A couple players got caught both stream sniping (basically looking at their opponents hands) AND win-trading (since a higher place on the ladder gives you more points for a better seed within tournaments) and all they got was a DQ from the upcoming tournament and a year long ban from Grandmasters (the same system that Blitz participated in).

They were still allowed to compete in other tournaments they had qualified for, and they still kept the prize money they had won.

And for context, only the tournament DQ was handed down immediately. It took the community an entire year complaining at Blizzard to boot them out of Grandmasters retroactively.

Which meant they could have done anything they wanted. They could have even chose not to do anything.

Realistically the “best” punishment would have been a couple game ban, maybe a fine and ensure that any future winners interviews were pre-recorded to prevent situations like that happening again.

People would have agreed with Blizzard, outrage would have been relatively minor and you wouldn’t have Senators calling out Blizzard for their actions.

But Blizzard didn’t choose the best punishment. They chose to overreact and try to make an example out of Blitzchung.

But do you really believe that they did it to make a quick buck despite their statement?
It’s like being in the wrong place at the wrong time but you still get arrested, and in the eyes of the public they’ll be deemed guilty for something when they just might be innocent. If that statement makes sense lol

To some extent US is aprt of this but why are we talking about US atrocities? If you wanna have a discussion about the latest wedding we accidentally bombed then fine i’ll come comment. Keep that over there cus it distracts from the focus of blizzard being a piece shet.

I don’t actually own a physical copy or i would.

That was when Blizzard was going to make us use real names in the forums…that blew up in their faces like a atomic bomb…and one blue poster joke about it ended up some wow sites listing his home address…his moms address…his phone number and all…

There is no equivalence between dealings with the US and China. One more or less respects freedom of speech and the other fears and attempts to squash it. BIG DIFFERENCE.

And what would other game companies do? I’m sure Blizzard isn’t the only game company on earth caught in a diplomatic problem.
