You need 10 crackling shards to Alunira Mount. The drop is guessed at 1/1000 per mob in the zone Isle of Dorn. Can we get a buff or at least a check to see if this still works? I’m sitting at 0/6386 kills since my 4th shard drop back in November. 
(Im well over 0/10,000+ kills if you count my alts. I have an addon tracking it.)
Oh, is it only in Isle of Dorn that they drop? I have 3 so far and haven’t seen any in a long while - but I don’t really farm for them also.
They’re warbound at least! Good luck on the farm.
Hop on your alts and kill rares. They have a higher chance to drop from the rares.
OMG… I deleted I don’t know how many before I even realized what they were!?.. I am so mad at myself.
This mount is really great, what a shame the drop is so low.
Also, Mark of the Smoldering Dreamstag is pretty hard to get too. It’s really annoying to farm it because:
Even Torrential Fragment are easier to get (and we need to get seven to get the item we need).
They can also drop from the purple dirt mounds, so if you have a miner or herbalist, keep an eye out for those while farming.
Did you know they drop from delves in the Isle of Dorn now? I’ve had about 2 so far.
I got only 2 till 11.1 came out. Now I have 9, seems the drop rate was increased.

RNG on RNG on RNG. RNG on the pack she’ll appear in, RNG on when, RNG on if you get it (apparently a 1.9% drop rate from her). I collated the total time i spent farming ~17 hours. Not the worst but 17 hours over 3 weeks feels a lot more grindy than it is.
Tho i do remember the dopamine hit when RareScanner detected Talthonei Ashwhisper. Was something to ‘go for’ each day.
I have the mount and a handful of extra shards in the bank. They also drop in the three Isle of Dorn delves.
Since the expansion started i got 4 shards, but i’m not even farming, i got it just playing normally with all my alts.
From memory I managed to get all 10 shards within about 8k kills. 95% of those kills were the spiders, wolves and bees in the north east area of the Isle of Dorn. That’s the area most dedicated farmers grind them. Mainly because at launch there were some hyperspawn spots that people took advantage of in that area. But I was late on the scene and blizz nerfed it before I could also take advantage. But I still think that’s the best spot to farm them. Just post in the group finder and get a 5 man group going. That’s what I did at least. I’ts probably harder to get people now but hopefully not too much harder.

I got one yesterday, they do still drop. Don’t see myself ever getting 10 though.
The fact that you can play an entire expansion and not get enough for the mount without absurd farming is pretty ridiculous and unnecessary.
In some comment somewhere, I don’t remember where I saw it, make sure you don’t have any in your personal or warband bank. It won’t magically make a bunch start dropping, but it could be preventing any from dropping. Not sure why though lol
I finished mine over the winter, and then when my friend and I did the bee farm, I had 4 more shards drop while she only saw 1. It sucks that they are completely wasted for me since, unlike Alani, you must be the person who removes Alunira’s shield for the mount to drop.
During first week of release they dropped like hot cakes i got 10 used them and got 10 extra sitting in bank
i think you can have deleted items reinstated through the account settings, it’s been a while since i’ve done this, though.

Back when I farmed these I was counting myself lucky to get 1 every 500-1000 kills. I went for a stretch somewhere in the last half of farming where I was a good 7k kills between drops.
I ended up swapping characters and doing the rare farming loop between 3 of them and got the last few in a few hours. Pretty crappy farm tbh.
