Bliz, what the heck is up with melee range?

I also think it might consider your nose area as the front hitbox, so if they step with their nose past yours, it might read it as you not being in the right spot. That has also happened to me…

The problem now isn’t hitbox size so much as it is object pathfinding in Classic. The melee range issue you are having are likely tied to whatever system they have for pathfinding which is steadily getting worse over time.

You can see evidence of this in dungeons when mobs take odd long distance paths to you when you are directly in front of them, or they are circling around you as they attempt to “get in melee range”(mobs confuse you as being further than you are and attempt to keep pathing to melee despite already being there).

I’ve seen some wonky examples of this, too. Like in Gnomeregan when the mobs will walk around the archways and skim the edge instead of just going through the arch on flat ground. I’ve had mobs evade cheat me when we’re both on flat ground.

It’s gotta say something that Bliz’s answer to the mobs being unable to “see a path” to the players is just evade cheesing and going immune to everything rather than fixing their map/terrain design.

You know, because if a player can damage a mob but the mob can’t hit us back, that’s a problem.

But if the mobs are hitting us and we can’t hit them back, that’s just fine.

They used to vary.

Up until original WoTLK, tauren had a larger hitbox and gnomes had a smaller. It was fun on…one of the Hyjal bosses that had an 8 yard AoE war stomp constantly hitting melee, but as a tauren, I could melee from one pixel outside it.

This was removed in Classic, so it’s just a trivia fact now.

Yikes dude. Imagine complaining about something thats the fault of how terrible your obviously rural internet is and blaming it on “the people that don’t look like me”. Weak

A lot of bosses and mobs just have stupidly small hitboxes. I’ve been complaining for years at this point. Ex: Kologarn in Ulduar. Guess where warriors had to stand for cleave to bounce from the body to his arms? If you guessed, “On a 5 pixel wide piece of floor sticking out over the abyss where Kolo himself stands that kills you if you fall in”, you’d be right.

I will never understand why literal giants have a hitbox so small my character has to be visibly INSIDE their feet, to hit them.

Like, I understand not making it TOO egregious. For the sake of, melee needing to actually be melee. But my god dude. And with the pathing issues? With the bugs surrounding bosses like Ozruk, Ingvar, and Anub’arak. Where they charge up their stupid frontal cone that the tank is supposed to sidestep out of. And then for some reason snap to the tank at the end of the cast and frontal where the tank moved to instead of where he was when the cast started.

Yeah that Ozruk thing is really annoying. It made me wonder if while tanking it I really was supposed to sidestep that cone attack or just eat it so it didn’t hit anyone else. I remember the mechanic was originally “tank sidesteps, cone goes off on empty space, tank moves back into position” but for Cata classic, the boss snapped to face the tank right before casting it so sometimes, it was just impossible to avoid being hit by it.

Seriously, though, Bliz… the distance between player and mob for us to be able to use melee attacks is way too small. It’s just silly to have a nelf warrior with an enormous sword having to be close enough to French kiss the target to hit it. (Again, this is not me saying that ranges should be dependent on weapon type, merely that the melee range rn is obnoxiously tight and illogical.)

And it’s even more insulting to players when the mobs’ melee attacks hit us from 20 yards away sometimes. Like why the double standard? Why is “melee range” for mobs “whatever the mob wants it to be” but for players, we have to be so close we can taste whatever the mob last ate?

I’ve found that he tends not to bug out if you give him a wide enough berth. Instead of just a small step to the side, running out about the same distance as you would for the circle aoe

Hm. If I end up tanking him again before mop goes live will try this.
