Blitz map design

So recently someone got me into doing some blitz. I generally only do random battlegrounds. For me the design changes to the 15 man maps into 8 man maps make them vastly inferior to random BGs. I struggle to have any fun playing these maps. You are often disincentivised to actually pvp. It’s better to CC people and steal nodes. The overall damage and healing is lower than the most maps because of how little the pvp matters to winning or losing.

The temporary control creates awkward situations of indecision as to what the right play is. To watch the timers and rotate around the map or stay there and wait to cap again. Maybe some people like that new dynamic but I’ve largely heard complaints about the design from others players.

The 4 second cap timers create frustrating gameplay of people trading CC to steal and then see who can spin long enough to hold the node. The pvp itself feels secondary. You essentially can only use your trinket as a means to spin a node. Any other time it is a waste. The reduce cap timer creates a large class imbalance between the rest of the classes and those that can easily spin or steal nodes.

I don’t think I even need to say anything about eots. Anyone that has played blitz eots knows why it’s poorly design. I feel that eots is the most hated blitz map.

I think they should go back to the drawing board with 15 man maps in blitz or scrap them entirely, leaving in only the 10 man maps. Idk about other players but the lack of fun I have on these maps is a big turn off from doing blitz.

I like Blitz as is. My fun is more dependent on team skill than map design.

They do need more maps that are straight forward and some small changes to some of the existing maps would be helpful. That and games boiling down to comp is frustrating and feels like you have less agency over wins.

Deephaul Ravine can be kinda nice at times if you just want a good team fight. Protect cart, spin mid. Meters can actually matter, but stealing carts is still a very valid strat.

EOTS could be fun, but having the entire game come down to maybe just one cap or one stolen base sucks. They need to make the flags work in the same way they do in the other node maps. After so much time, they automatically swap.

Deepwind Gorge needs to go.

Would you rather have the nodes work as they do where total count matters or just change the timer?

Blitz does feel weird at first but you get used to it eventually. Then it makes it hard to go back to randoms because everything in randoms will feel like it takes too long. And no rewards either.

As for the cheesy stuff on some maps? My theory there is that they did that on purpose to help lower skilled players win and advance just on luck.

Variety is the spice of life

They should have made all new maps to compensate for the lower player count on each team. Most of these maps are way too big for 8v8. It’s a pretty boring game mode. Lazy design.

tbf they did crank up the mount speed to compensate.
But yeah I really wish they had designed new 8v8 maps rather than just half heatedly try to adjust old maps for a new mode.
