Blink still flawed

Blink, an iconic ability has been flawed for quite some time now. Depending on the terrain, obstacles, or debuffs, you might go nowhere.

Blink should be the best version of the concept ability available in game. At this point, warriors can jump great distances, targeted, and have 2 charges if talented. Havoc Demon hunters can Fel Charge twice and not worry about differences in elevation. Vengeance Demon Hunters can Infernal Crash twice to a targeted area. Outlaw Rogues can grapple to a targeted area. Venthyr covenant members can Blood Mirror to a targeted location. The iconic ability has been stolen from mages and redistributed in better iterations.

MAGE’S BLINK SHOULD BE A TARGETED, INSTANT CAST SHADOW STEP TYPE SPELL THAT IGNORES ELEVATION AND OBSTACLES. Yes, mages should be able to blink through walls.

Blink has been broken since pre-vanilla, and these exact problems have existed for as long as the game has. Blizzard has even acknowledged that it (was) a problem on at least one occasion. Sadly, they have just never bothered to try to fix it and the last we heard was that due to the way it teleports you to a location it’s almost impossible to fix because if it runs into a problem of not being able to teleport to that exact location in 3D it just doesn’t work.

Unlike abilities like fel rush, leap, charge, lock gates etc Blink teleports you to a location and allows you to avoid damage entirely. That in itself is amazingly useful. Personally I wouldn’t really like to have another targeted reticule spell, especially for something like Blink that doesn’t often leave you time to sort out where your icon is (it can also fail miserably in caves etc). It’s a lose-lose situation really, where we either have broken but easy to use Blink or fix it but require high levels of effort.

I guess over the many years of playing, those using Blink outside of boss arenas (which are much better than they used to be) tend to jump before/during using it to try and avoid any failures due to a piece of grass.

They should bring back displacement as baseline

I hear ya. I’m not particularly a fan of targeted reticule type spells either but it works well for that kind of purpose. Maybe it could be talented to give players the option. I digress that teleporting through obstacles just doesn’t sound feasible

:100:. That was a great spell to have.

Idk about targeting it but they could have just one time taken a look at the necropolis floor in NW in the past couple years? The instances of getting stuck seem fewer and fewer so when something like this one spot stands out it could get a little attention

heck, in NW (Dr boss room) - if you try to use your directional blink, you DO NOT go in the direction you ever wanted. That room along with the last boss room is a nightmare for trying to blink in any particular direction. Drives me nuts everytime I get that dungeon.
