This talent makes Mutilate and Ambush have a chance to proc a free use Ambush regardless of stealth… but in Assassination spec Ambush is just a stronger Mutilate, which means having to use an extra button in the action bar that does rawly the same as other skill but just slightly more damage.
So one option would be to simply make this a buff that increases the damage of Mutilate and make it free instead of allowing the use of Ambush.
Alternatively Shiv has a lot of synergies that makes it more attractive than Ambush, so I think Blindside would be a more attractive talent if instead of Ambush it resets Shiv. And by it’s position it conflicts with the talent Tiny Toxic Blade that makes Shiv to do more damage, so balance wise it’d only require a reduction in damage if it’s too strong.
Also this in 10.05 with Arterial Precision would help with Assassination AOE, making it more attractive in comparison with Outlaw and Subtlety specs.

I agree. It does make more sense to have Blindside enhance something that’s already in the rotation. Shiv is a good idea.
Instead of a free Ambush, how about one of those 7 cp Envenoms. That would be luscious.
Maybe, for 5-10 seconds, you get free refills on combo points, like Fangs of the Father used to do. In the spirit of recycled abilities, I’d love to see that one come back.

Not a bad idea.
I don’t roll with the ambush proc as OP stated, I personally find the amount of spells and buttons (amazing) but it bloats my keybinds so I just choose other passives.
Having it impact the gameplay with mutiliate or shiv would see more choices for rogues to consider and yeah even the choices you mentioned would have me umm and ahhh about which to take.

The thing is not removing the talent or removing it entirely. Currently this talent is too aggresive and forces you to modify your rotation for little or no gain at all.
But if it’d be more friendly and less intrusive, people could opt for using it instead of other talents in this tier. Also with the new changes that are coming this will be even less picked because Kingsbane will be in a different line.
Our rotation isn’t as linear as you make it sound. You’re just using ambush instead of mutilate, which isn’t a big deal. If you’re a clicker, I can see why it’s a pain. But otherwise it’s fine.
You have 3(5) finishers
- Rupture: A bleed that you have to keep for energy and damage
- Envenom: A single target heavy hit damage that gives you a buff
- Slice and Dice: A 50% attack speed that you use once and forget (this is a whole other problem)
- Kidney Shot: A 6s stun
- Crimson Tempest: An aoe damage that leaves a short duration bleed
Then you have 4(5) fillers
- Garrote: A 18 second duration bleed
- Mutilate: A single target attack that generate points
- Fan of Knives: An aoe attack that generate points
- Shiv: A 25 second cd utility attack that may become part of your main rotation with talents
- Ambush: An improved Mutilate that can only be used from stealth (or with the talent in question)
Then you have 5 potential offensive cds
- Deathmark: A 2min cd that is almost mandatory
- Echoing Reprimand: An almost mandatory 45 seconds cd that allows you to use a finisher with 7 combo points
- Kingsbane: A 60 seconds cd that gives you a huge burst of damage depending on the poisons that you land on the enemy for a few seconds
- Exsanguinate: A 3min cd that makes your bleed do their damage in less time
5.1 Sepsis: A 90 seconds cd that does a burst of poison damage and allows you to use a stealth ability
5.2 Serrated Bone Spike: A 30 seconds cd that has the damage of Ambush and leaves a permanent bleed on enemies
And then you have to add stealth and defensive skills
So in total you use 7(8) skills for a base rotation with a total of 15 potential skills in your bar. Main skillbar has only 12 slots. And again this is without counting defensive or utility skills.
