I’m pretty dumb, so I get the you can give someone up to 45% protection which everyone claims is really good kool but my issue with the 100% suffered part why would I ever almost kill myself to save someone from getting killed? Maybe I’m not getting how this skill works?
The point is to split the damage to save someone from going down. It’s better to have 2 players alive each with less health than have 1 player alive.
It gives time for a healer to catch up, if nothing else do get more damage out. You can save tanks, and healers with it as a DPS, and as prot paladin it’s much less likely that you will lose enough HP to die.
As Ret you can sac someone and then use Shield of Vengeance to mitigate the damage. Think of it as a temporary soul link.
You take reduced damage eventually, so ultimately damage is mitigated between the two of you. Also, in a group setting not all damage will be raid wide. In those instances, taking some of the damage for the tank can make or break a pull.
A few ways this is good:
-
Spreading the damage (as others already mentioned), which makes damage less spiky and give you more time to respond.
-
The 45% damage reduction doesn’t all transfer to you, only the original 30%. Echoing Blessings adds an additional 15% regular damage reduction that doesn’t come to you.
-
Divine Protection paired with Sac means you’re getting damage reduction on that incoming damage. Further reducing incoming damage overall.
-
Finally, and most powerfully, you can use Divine Shield with Sac and get a fully 45% damage reduction on your tank for FREE. GOLD.
you can block and mitigate the dmg transferred. You also have instant cast heals to cast any remaining dmg that actually gets through…or cast at same time as divine shield ect ect.
