I had Blacksmithing but I dropped it to level another profession. The extra sockets in my bracers and gloves cannot be changed. I’m not sure if this is a bug or just poor scripting, but I need to be able to change the gem in my gloves because of the following problem:
The gloves I’m wearing have a 51 to Stamina Dragon’s Eye gem (which you can only have 3 equipped at once). Despite the fact that this gems effect isn’t working because I dropped blacksmithing, the game will not allow me to equip another item that has a Dragon’s Eye gem in it because the game thinks I’m trying to use 4 Dragon’s Eye gems.
This is actually a bug that wasn’t an issue on many private wotlk servers. But I suppose it’s too niche for Blizzard to care considering they’re only fixing bugs that have a large amount of noise behind them. I.e. Fiery weapon procing deep wounds.
Interestingly, like all the others that came across this I got told this is intended and how they meant the game to be played. But I can’t find any proofs that dragon eyes were locked by this before (that the game would count as you having a dragon eye when the socket is inactive). There’s even records of gms removing the sockets for someone.
So this is a very small issue that affect not too many people so might not seem important. And that seemed to get fixed before by gms fixing the items as that is something that wouldn’t happen often. But nowadays with gms refusing to do anything because of how it was intended before, when obviously gms were more open to fix stuff like this before doesn’t make sense.
It would probably take more time to fix the UI then fix by hand the small population for who it happens but I guess if you aren’t gonna do that then a fix to how losing blacksmith sockets works need to be done.
