Blacksmithing: Obsidian Weapons aren't worth it

I crafted the Obsidian Stormhammer for a boomie guildie. Figured it’d be worth testing out as the procs sounded interesting: “Chance on direct spell damage or melee attack to deal 325 to 500 Fire damage to your target. Deals extra damage to Silithid creatures in Silithus on almost every hit.

When damaging Silithids in Silithus, it certainly does as advertised, and triggers basically every other cast for a decent bit of extra damage. Not super useful on high burst damage classes like Boomkins, but it is what it is.

I expected the proc chance to be ‘normal’ on non-Silithid creatures outside of Silithus and raids, something like 5-10%. The reality is that it’s proccing about 1 to 4 times in a 4 minute fight (yes my guild is bad). Obsidian-Edged was adding up to about 0.35% of my friend’s overall damage for the fight.

Now I understand these weapons aren’t supposed to replace raiding pieces, but for the price in materials I would expect them to perform a LITTLE better. I doubt it’s bugged or anything because the SoD balance team has been hard at work creating brick walls to fun, but dropping the material cost by half would go a long way in making these even worth it for Silithus farming weapons.

They seem to be intended as catch up gear but they are way too expensive for anyone trying to catch up.

I’ve been further annoyed by learning how relatively cheap the non-blacksmithing thorns armor set pieces are for Tailoring and Leatherworking.

Anywhere from 5-10 Obsidian Infused Bars for a piece of plate thorns.
Zero for Tailoring and Leatherworking, just requiring Qiraji Silk and Monstrous Silithid Chitin. Which are going for single digit gold at the moment.

It’s literally catch up gear for gold buyers nice work blizz

They put stuff in the game like adding the mageblade in MC phase that requires nexus crystals I bought the recipe holding onto and then they add an obsidian mageblade.
