I have scrapped everything since the beginning of BFA. I cannot blacksmith the item for my ilvl, despite having the recipe. I’m not even close to having enough expulsom. This… disgusts me.
Every. Single. Item. Scrapped. 13. Expulsom. In. Inventory. 50. Required.
Also, super cool that the required expulsom was INCREASED on recipes.

Craft greens --> Scrap Greens --> Get Expulsom periodically.
If you run out of ore, get more ore.
Trinkets will always give you Expulsom. Also keep an eye on the World Quests in the temple, there was one a few days ago that gave me 5 Expulsom for a few mats.

Also, Expulsom seems to be RNG. I’ve heard stories of people getting only 20 while I’ve gotten over 100 since expansion started.
I’ve earned 129 expulsom in just the past 2-3 weeks, and hundreds others used to level LW/Eng/Alch at different points since launch, you having only earned 13 since the beginning of BfA is an absolutely absurd idea.
Not to necessarily pile on here, but the other responses so far make good points. I’m nowhere near your item level but I’ve also got considerably more Expulsom than the 13 you say you have. Have you spent it crafting other recipes already? 13 seems like awfully bad luck, and if that’s what happened you have my genuine sympathies OP, that’s rough.
It’s ridiculous what they’ve done to professions. My druid can’t make a decent alchemist stone unless I run 100 heroic dungeons or something crazy like that.
I’ve stopped crafting for expulsom. I get enough from the work orders now, especially since everything big that takes expulsom gives it back now when you scrap it. Also you can check WQs and target trinkets, which always scrap expulsom. Worst case, you can run Normal Atal and change your loot spec around because almost all the bosses drop trinkets.
13 for the entire expansion sounds like a severe exaggeration though. I’m sitting on almost 150 right now. About half is from scrapping my old 385, and half of the rest is work orders. You didn’t burn it all on follower equipment, did you?
It’s a 355 piece, intended for people who run Mythic (100% drop rate) to gear up for raid. Hydrocores from Heroic are more a teaser than an intended method to craft raid gear. For as low as the drop rate is, it shouldn’t even be on the table.
There are world quests out there occasionally that give 5 expulsion for a small chunk of materials or craft able items.
Run mythics for the 100% chance on hydrocores? It takes 15 clears, and you only need them for the initial 355 stone.
They make it extremely difficult to calculate the time-sink, but here: if you use an entire stack of monelite to craft 20 pieces you will get 1 expulsom (that’s been my experience, 1/20). So how long does it take to farm 200 monelite? Let’s say 30min, even though I suspect it’s longer. If I want to get the 37 required for an i385 piece (i’m currently 383) I need to farm approx. 20 hours.
BTW - I scrapped my most recent piece right before they made the change, so when they increased the expulsom required, I was at a double-loss.
Blizz play it safe like most thing in BFA. Thing cost a lot but give little. In 8.1 they pretty much redo the number on a lot of thing. Expulsom is one of them. Expulsom required much less in BoD gears. It’s like 15-25 expulsom now.
Also, don’t craft the uldir gear anymore it’s not worth expulsom come tomorrow.
