i was able to log in once normally, but any further attempts result in only black screen and music.

I am in the same boat. I only got a black screen, but was able to log in ONCE, and for some reason I kept getting background log in attempts that I had closed out of. So like 5 musics playing all at once. Then I d/c’d and haven’t been able to get back on since. Only black screen.

It is happening with me as well only i didnt even get one attempt to log in. it instantly went to the black screen and the window wont even stay maximized.

I am also getting this black screen on launch. Was never able to log in.

also getting a black screen, music and a mouse cursor, but nothing else

I am able to hit enter and I hear the sound effect as if I’m logging into a toon, but then nothing happens

gonna try using repair to see if that fixes it, and then after that see if any drivers need updating.

EDIT: in a reddit thread a blizz customer support agent linked a support article that people are saying is working
https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/b0biqb/is_anyone_else_experiencing_black_screens_since/

just wish they’d do the same on their own forums.

currently in the middle of my repair still, so I’ll try doing what the article says after.

I’m also having the same issue. I was able to log in earlier without any problems, however I now only see a black screen with the cursor showing, and music playing.

How do i set it to directX 11 if I can’t even get into the game? It freezes before I can touch anything.

For anyone wondering Directx11 is under advanced settings.

for anyone who still has black screen go into ur wow folder

1.World of warcraft
2.retail
3.WTF
4.Config
5. Find the line that says SET gxApi “D3D12” and switch to “D3D11”

Worked like a charm after that, hope this helps

in the battle net launcher, click the blizzard logo in the top left, go to settings

game settings

go down to world of warcraft

check the box “additional command line arguments”

then in the text box that appears type “-d3d11” without the "

That fixed it! Thank you!!

All the other solutions appear to be temporary, they work once and when you exit the game and relog, they stop working. This is the only one I’ve found that’s permanent thus far. Maybe exiting the blizzard app launcher and re-launching it will force the command line info through again but I did this and I haven’t had the issue again.
