Blacklists, bad behavior, community justice

Blizzard, what is your stance on how we used to do things in the old days? Do you remember how we'd organize against and ostracize people who ninja looted important stuff, back when that was still a thing?

How are you going to react to that, big blue? You haven't seen it in a while. With everything sharded and cross-realmed and loot personal, token-based gambling simulators, your GMs are going to be in for a shock. Are they ready?

More importantly, how are your GMs going to treat us when we try to do our thing? Are you going to smack us with harassment bans for circulating evidence of bad behavior? Are you going to purge screenshots and links of ninja looting from the forums because it might hurt some feelings?

You have to remember that this is the only way to push back against bad behavior. Your GMs aren't going to be punishing ninja looters. Never have, never will. Are you going to punish us for trying?

On this one, specifically, Blizzard isn't going to change their Forum code of conduct to allow naming and shaming. (And the reason it is not allowed has nothing to do with hurting feelings - it's because Blizzard wants nothing to do with policing whether reports are true or false, whether images are valid or shopped.)

However, as was true in 2004, non-Blizzard sites (guild websites, for example, as well as realm websites) can have their own rulesets and players can do as they wish with blacklists and naming people and all that elsewhere.
Classic servers will be a !@#$ show if they use the old roll window with just the roll button or the little X for pass.
Things spread like wildfire in small communities. I look forward to it. I think its part of the fun. Naming and shaming will happen regardless.
We used to have this NE warrior, Zode, that was always swallowed by controversy on my server. Claims of ninjaing. Stealing mats (he was like one of two people who could make Arcanite Reaper).

If they keep community intact, Blizzard won't be able to stop it. News gets around. Forums or not.
They addressed it back in Nov and said it was fine.
This wont be an issue for 1 reason. Any decent "retail player" has maxed out bnet cash and millions of gold still to reload.

They can ninja/realm xfer/nsme change all they want with their bnet gold.

Again its not 2004. The players are different. Dont be surprised if there are enhanced bnet services for money.
Blacklists never really worked as well as people say they did.

Yes, naming & shaming should be actionable (squelch/ban) in Classic just as it is in Retail. The CoC isn't going to be any different.
Used to love watching ninja looters get ran off the server. I remember a hunter in our guild ninja looting an epic bow in MC.

Once exposed on the forums no guild would have him and no one would play with him. No realm transfers back then. He was forced to quit playing, or at the minimum to start over on a different server.

Calling people out on the forums would get those who called him out banned for breaking the ToS now days.
Maybe someone can create us a blacklist addon. It shares names across your server.

Yeah, I don't see that lasting too long. Blizzard breaks addons it's doesn't like.
The guild I was in way back when shared a list with several other guilds. I don't see how this would be any different. Imagine a discord devoted to maintaining a server ninja list. Takes a screenshot to get a name listed.
Inb4 blizz allows name changes and realm transfers lol, they make so much money off services I find it hard to believe they wont.

Guess we will know soon enough. They did say they were making vanilla warts and all.

I agree. They became available in early TBC, and were a gold mine for Blizzard.

Paid character services will most likely make their way into Classic.

Especially since it takes longer to re-roll and catch up in Classic.
But peoples feelings might get hurt!
Better call in the WHHHHHHHaaaambulance.
