Black Screen/Driver Crash

Damn man, this issue bricked my first +20 of the season. 7900XT, black screen crashing to desktop. 10 days since last “Soon” response, what gives. Actually can’t play the game.

Despite putting in -d3d11 in that command line, it still crashes. Just had an unfortunate crashing right after defeating Fyrakk and it somehow caused me to abandon my quest of defeating Fyrakk which made me very livid ):<

Use AMD Driver Cleaner tool to remove drivers and the AMD software suite. Upon reinstall select Driver Only Install.

7900 xtx here. Fixed it for me across all games.

Something about AMD’s app postprocessing was causing this issue as far as I can tell.

Issue still exists with no new update on the matter. Issue has been occuring since patch 10.1.5

Saw you type this in my thread, it is a temp fix, it will start crashing again.

For anyone experiencing driver crashes with their 6xxx / 7xxx AMD GPU, try disabling “Radeon Boost” in the AMD Radeon Settings to see if that helps.
https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/dh2-033#faq-Configuring-Radeon-Boost

If it does help we recommend reporting the issue to AMD: https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/bd-p/drivers-and-software-discussions

You can also use the bug report tool if issues continue: https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/amdbrt

Radeon boost was never enabled on my system and the crashes were happening.

I’ll keep reporting to AMD on every driver crash in the meantime I suppose.

Clearing the AMD Driver Cache seems to fix it, albeit temporarily. I went 2 days without crashes after clearing the cache until it started happening again.

I agree with reporting to AMD but it literally is only happening in WoW makes me think it’s not an amd issue.

It won’t work man, anything we can currently do is a temporary fix. Literally on WoW and AMD’s end. NOTHING WE DO WILL FIX THIS. Nothing. No reinstalling, driver only install, disabling 1 of the 300 features, MPO, BIOS Updates, etc, etc, etc.

There is literally ZERO PERMAMENT FIX that we as users can do. Trust me. And yes I’m beyond pissed at the moment.

This is awful, somehow this was working fine 7900xtx in directX 12 before 10.1.7 and since that patch its been a constant battle tht got worse in 10.2 and sadly it seems like a fault with WoW and not AMD specifically

This issue is getting ridiculous. Even launching in DX11 and changing to DX12 via the options menu crashes the game. I don’t know which side is at fault - Blizzard or AMD, but get your collective waste together and SORT IT OUT!!

Is dx 12 still an option in your graphic settings?

Yes I can still opt into DirectX 12 in the settings if i want to, but im too afraid to swap from dx11 since the new raid / dungeons are out i cant afford to crash

Mine started 10.1.5 prior to that patch it never happened a single time since i bought the 7900xt. I swear this patch dud something that started this.

Radon Boost was never enabled during my testing on DX 12 and it is still crashing to this day, since patch 10.1.5

I just installed fresh Windows 11 Pro with a RX 6600 XT and WoW keeps on showing “Not Responding”. Diablo and every other Blizzard game works just fine. Only WoW crashes. Radeon Boost is not enabled. :frowning:

At this point I’m trying to duplicate the issue. It is indeed random, however here are some hot spots where crashing seems to be consistent. I have never crashed in the Raid as of writing this. I have also never experienced crashes prior to 10.2.

As of writing this, after the first crash, no crashes will happen for the remainder of that Instance. If I do dungeons back to back (e.g. DOTI —> BRH) I will experience a unique crash in that new dungeon (same play session).

Open World - Valdrakken. Standing AFK by fountain, 1 crash, has never replicated.

Dungeons: not listed = never crash

  • Dawn of The Infinites - Guaranteed Crash. Most often in the “Open Sandy Zones”, this goes for both halves of the dungeon. This crash never occured during 10.1.7.
  • Black Rook Hold: Before first boss, and during small goblin area before final staircase. I also had an event occur in BRH that caused a total driver failure and PC crash.
  • Everbloom - After first boss or turning “right” after the start of the dungeon, narrow hallway area before second boss.
  • Throne of Tides - It has happened twice, can’t recall area, think it was one of the two “straight” hallways.

My PC is fine, components are fine, drivers are updated, fresh install, etc. I can play Cyperpunk on Ultra for 7+ hours straight, same with Huntshowdown (which has a jank engien btw). I can stress test the PC for multiple hours. There is NO OC present on my PC outside my EXPO/XMP profile (yes I’ve tried disabling this). Nothing works.

Ever since switching to dx11 I haven’t experienced any more crashes, and I’m assuming they fixed the “memory leak” in dx11 as well since I haven’t crashed due to insufficient memory either.
That being said I’ve started encountering another issue, while that not often maybe 2-3 times a week, when pulling a boss whether it be in raid/M+ I’ll just DC and be able to log right back in.

Radeon boost already disabled, and I’ve reported the issue to AMD 30+ times. the problem is only with YOUR game. no other DX 12 games or apps are effected.

Just want to chime in that I am experiencing similar driver crashes as well, and only while playing World of Warcraft. GPU is a RX 7900 XTX and my CPU is a 7700X. Even after just recently completely reinstalling Windows 11 and updating all drivers, I will get a random 5-10 second freeze which leads to black screen and either complete driver crash or (more rarely) an eventual recovery. I’ve been having these crashes for months and am sending in reports when they happen. Just wish either AMD or Blizzard would give more updates on things.

Forgot to add that while others seem to find a “fix” by switching to DX11, these crashes are happening to me while im using DX11 and not 12. The game won’t even launch for me if DX12 is selected and if i try to swap to 12 while in game it freezes everything.
