Black screen when you first load in?

I haven’t experienced this. Try the usual suspects:

  1. Exit game, delete cache folder, try again.
  2. Disable addons, try again.
  3. Do a full UI reset, try again.
  4. Try the second link about black screens if none of those work.

Also, check to see that you have the latest display drivers.

AMD video card?
It seems when you update drivers, the first time you launch WoW, the shaders need to be rebuilt, and that’s why it hangs on a black screen. If you just wait a few minutes, it should load successfully. Only happens the first launch after a driver update; afterwards, it loads as usual.

Thanks to your wording in now imagining little video card gnomes building and rebuilding shaders. I wonder if they’re related to the gnomes in my car door that raise the widow.
