After the recent 10.0.5 patch today, if my shadow quality is on LOW, black boxes appear under my character, NPC’s and pets. Also if theres a swirly on the floor from an enemy monster ability, the swirly also has a huge black box under it. If i switch my shadow quality to anything besides LOW, the issue is fixed. But I cant play on anything higher than LOW or else I will have FPS lag

just noticed this now. happening to me too. the black boxes disappeared for me when changing the shadows to “fair”
I also noticed that AoE spell effects on the ground are affected as well (solid black box)

Even when changing Shadows to Ultra or High ‘fixes’ the box issues on players and npc, it doesnt for the mechanics.
Weird how a patch about transmo can cause these problems.

Also having problem. Computer is old and I have detuned graphics to be able to play. Can deal with the jerky graphics when flying but having black boxes everywhere ruins the experience. More than I’d expect actually. Just keep shutting it down instead of playing.
Same issue here. There are a few threads on the Technical Support forum about the same thing and it seems like most if not all have Windows 7. Hopefully it will get fixed soon for those of us on old computers. Windows 7 is still officially supported for WoW even if it is old.
yes this is crazy black boxes under my character feet & npcs everywhere i play on my steam deck with a lot of add ons but everything updated , maybe its sumn to do with the patch please fix asap lol

My system llays wow on max settings at 2k at 200fps and I’m getting these boxes.
Not at all, im having this issues on a 3080 - Ryzen 9 5950X system
On windows 10.
I just play on low for the FPSs increase.
I have the same issue, regardless of what shadow quality I have. ULTRA makes it disappear from NPC/Character, but any boss texture or ability brings them back in dungeons. Making them completely unplayable.
I can not see fires or fireballs or any projected textures on the ground without BIG BLACK BOXES under them.

Im having the same issue i sat over top of the world boss because there is a big box under him as well for almost an hour changing settings and nothing fixed it if you move shadows off of low it fixes the boxes under players and npc’s but you still have them under mechs did the raid last night and i noticed that eranog and the fire part of Kurog were the times when the boxes showed up so its something to do with the red effects at least thats what it looks like
There’s big black boxes underneath my character and all NPCs even after updating AddOns for my Steam Deck. Anyone find a fix for this yet?
Nope. This is 100% on blizzards side to be fixed. We dont need to do anything. Gotta just pray and hope they fix it soon
Just had to chime in here and say I have the same issue, it didn’t start until the 2 or 3Gb update installed, from yesterday.
I’m also on Windows 7, 64 edition. My framerate is already horrendous, setting the shadows on anything but low really messes with that even more.
bump! setting shadows to “fair” worked for a bit, but entering instanced areas (dungeons BGs) made the boxes reappear, and i couldnt get them to go away. tried changing various video settings. no luck
For some reason activating Anti-Aliasing and choosing on Multisample Techniques Color 2x / Depth 2x fixes the issue for me… ¯_(ツ)_/¯
