Bitcoin is going down, GPUs coming back in stock soon?

This is great news

The lower it gets the better we have a chance to get GPUs now

I’m sensing an overflow of used GPUs on eBay coming soon

Don’t hold your breath. The Bitcoin mining won’t go down as the price does as people will still be buying and selling it which means the miners still make money.

+1 to not holding your breath. Bitcoin is just ONE cryptocurrency; Ethereum is the one that miners are currently buying up the GPUs for.

Yeah was just going to say I don’t think it’s Bitcoin they’re mining with GPUs but rather ethereum.

Of course it would do this after I’d given up on getting a desktop GPU and settled for a gaming laptop…

Nobody mines Bitcoin on GPU anymore it’s all Asics now. But the market is tied to Bitcoin if it tanks all the way down again other coins will drop and some GPU miners will give up.

When Ethereum goes to proof-of-stake (sometime this year) then we might see used cards on eBay if they don’t just switch to Cardano or Ravencoin.

Sorry to inform you but thats not going to happen anytime soon. The recent crash has caused panic selling which drives up the gas price. Profits for miners are almost double right now as long as the gas price stays due to all the transactions.

Yes, I mine on my PC with a single card while I’m at work. I myself would like to upgrade my 5600 XT, but I don’t see that happening for awhile.

Bitcoin has nothing to do with GPU though. Ethereum is.

Price drops is usually a lot slower than price increase when it comes to products.

Etherium is on a rough road but it doesn’t matter. Another crypto will take it’s place.

Nothing will happen until governments start cracking down on the detrimental power draws a crypto operation pulls.

Bitcoin isn’t what is driving the GPU price its actually driven by Crypto currency of all forms, right now its Etherium, tomorrow who knows.

Nvidea has hardware limited some new graphics cards to limit the hashrate on mining while still allowing the graphics portion to work the same, but the mining community always has a workaround eventually, we will see

This reminds me of the gold rush. The wealthiest people were the ones selling shovels.

Just a reminder, money is dictated by the people with guns.

The shortage seems to be turning around right now, at least from what I see at the moment. Looking at OEMs other than Dell(since Dell always sort of had a stockpile), the other OEMs seem to be replenishing a lot of their SKUs that come with GPUs. For months these SKUs were overpriced or just not in stock at all. Cards such as the RX 5500, 1660 Super, RTX 3060, seem to be plentiful among the OEMs at the moment. The RX 5500 in particular is heavily available at the moment.

One OEM even mistakenly posted a configure option of allowing the RTX 3050 TI to be selected the other day, but took it down when I checked today.

I’ve been doing the newegg GPU shuffles. They first started with 3060s around $400-500. Slightly above markup, but livable. Now they want around $1000 for a 3070 and everything else is in the 1400-2500 range.

They’re supposed to be a respected retailer, at least they have been for a long time now, so if that’s an indicator we’re still out of luck.

Newegg went public so i wouldnt bother shopping their anymore. They are going to try and squeeze every dollar they can from the goodwill they have garnered over the last decade, and then once that stops being profitable, it will be liquidated.

Etherium would have to be completely unprofitable on GPU mining for GPUs to come back in stock

Thats not necessarily true. There are more coins to mine besides Ether. Ether is just the most profitable atm. Just yesterday it was said that E2 wont be here till the end of 2022, which means Ether will be minable until then.

I got real lucky and won one of the NewEgg shuffles. I got my RTX3060 for $450.

Maybe I should go buy a Powerball ticket next.
