I’m not a hunter, but I’ve recently convinced my RL (and WAY more casual) friend to do arena 2s with me. The elite armor set is sick and he wants it. I’d like someone that is more familiar with the class help me out so I can better advise my homie in what to go after first. Also what to craft for embellishments. I’ve tried looking at various websites, but the information is conflicting. Hoping to reach some sort on consensus and ascertain what is actually good.

I see wowhead saying one thing and icy veins saying another gets hard to navigate when you don’t know the spec at all

It’s unfortunately bad/shortsighted/incomplete advice more often than not now.

I also occasionally just google “wow pvp leaderboards 2v2” (or 3v3) to see what people are running these days.
Wowhead and veins are both better than nothing but not by much. Lot of misinformation. Murlok is definitely the best source.

He’s inexperienced and undergeared and we still won 5 of the 7 games we played last night. I’m 1600 in 2s already (I only do 3s seriously and just f around and grind saddles in 2s) I think we’ll have no trouble at least hitting 1600. Especially this late in the season. He already has the shoulder mog and the helmet is kinda meh anyway.
Verse, 4-set, mix mastery and haste.
All mastery isn’t great in PvP bc your pets won’t have 100% uptime.
Haste also makes keeping barbed stacks up easier.
That’s basically it.
Even distribution mastery/haste? Or 60/40?
What % is a good place for each?
60/40 mastery/haste? 40-50+% mastery for sure. Pretty easy to do. Haste 20+.
Mastery still really good obv due to damage.
Craft legs instead of tier if he can.
Venom stompers verse/mastery are most common boots. Not that infurious is bad if he’s got them.
If hogx (sargeras) is around he’s a good bm on the forums sometimes

He’s always been afraid to jump into PvP, but dipping his toe finally and enjoying it so far. I was worried we’d get our crap pushed in out the gate and he’d bail, but we killed it last night in the bracket he’s aiming for. Should be golden if trend continues.
I’ll tell him about what to aim for stat wise.
Hopefully he’ll catch the PvP bug and we’ll get more serious next season.

As far as arena goes bm is the most forgiving spec ive ever played. You can sit at a pillar and pop in and out for every global without losing any damage, you can constantly move without any drawbacks. Its a perfect spec to learn arena. Literally the only drawback is its squishy, but once you learn to kite big cds its fun.
