Tomorrow I turn 55! Being a New Year’s Eve baby was always terrible as a kid and teenager, I never had a birthday party, my family traveled every single year for three weeks after Christmas to go skiing or boating in the Caribbean.
When I left home and started college, I celebrated like every other college kid by getting so drunk I couldn’t remember anything. As I grew older into my 30s Christmas and New Year’s Eve became completely meaningless.
In 2009, I started playing WoW with a small group of people and got completely addicted. The holiday events, except Halloween and Undercity, never did a lot for me.
None of my friends in 2009 wanted to do NYE so we decided to play WoW, I turned 41 playing WoW, wpvp’ing in South Shore, drinking, and then at midnight being in Origrammar for the fireworks, it was the first time in years that I really enjoyed my birthday.
Every single year since, I’ve always made sure my subscription was current and logged in on my birthday and watched the fireworks at midnight. 14 years has gone by so quickly.
Over the years, everyone I’ve know has quit the game, so I continue my little tradition alone.
I would have never thought when I started playing WoW that I’d still be playing into my mid 50s. Here I am still chugging along and creating my memories.
So happy birthday to me, happy New Year’s Eve to every one of you, and I hope 2024 is an amazing year for you.

Feels weird being solo in a game that I’ve -always- played with friends.
And, I mean, I’ve met new friends. It’s never going to be the same experience as the first go around with WoW though, ya’ know? I don’t view the game the same way anymore either, so it’s only natural.
I just turned 42 few weeks ago, and im not really as good player as i used to be like maybe 5 years ago or even like 10 years ago… just wondering what content do you do at 55 ? Or do you even play retail ? I started in 06 when i was in mid 20s with friends from work but they all quit in wrath
I do RBGs to gear for wpvp, which is pretty much all I do anymore. Am I a good pvp’er? I’d say I’m average. I also collect xmog and do the things needed for pathfinder.
I’m not really good at pve - m+ or raids because of a TBI. The spells and crap give me horrible headaches. I don’t do 2s or 3s anymore, my reflexes are just to slow and I get depressed over not being able to play at a glad level.
I played Wrath exclusively for almost a year and got pretty good on my rogue as sub, but with SoD dropping it absolutely destroyed populations so I’m back on retail now.
I see, i do some casual m+, i went to wrath classic playing sub rogue, but pvp is all bots except arena and arena is full of pallies and warriors and my ambushes hit for like 4k lmao on plate with resil
I mostly wpvp in Wrath as well. Against plate classes you have to alter your opener because you’ll need to apply expose armor and you’ll want to use at least 3 combo points for an extended duration. For this to be effective you’ll also want to make sure you have 130 energy through PvP gear and talents.
Also with plate classes you have to reset a few times too. They’re a pain!
