I second this BG3 is an RPG masterpiece. One of the few games of all time id give a 10/10
My brother bought Mass Effect 3, it was the last Bioware game Iāve played and I didnāt even bother finishing it. I havenāt bought or played anything since and with each subsequent release I know I made the right choice.
the only reason the āanti-wokeā crew donāt mind BG3 is because the characters are hot
thatās literally the only reason they are okay with it
Ehhh I donāt know if I buy that.
I just watched another clip from DAVG that was shocking. One of the characters just flat out says theyāre nonbinary. Why would you do that in a computer game in a medieval fantasy setting?
And before someone gets their feathers ruffled, Iāll explain what I mean and how my point isnāt about being upset a nonbinary person is being represented.
The companion Zevran from the original story is bisexual but he doesnāt just come out and say that. He doesnāt hide it and heās definitely not shy telling you but he says it in a way that that does not pull you out of this fantasy/medieval setting. It would be the same thing as a character in DAO saying ādoes not computeā instead of āI donāt understand.ā
I donāt think there was any dialogue from BG3 that wasā¦ I look at it as almost breaking the fourth wall.
So far I havenāt gotten hit in the face with any āwokeā stuff that people seem to think is the entire game. Itās a lot of female empowerment, a lot, but whatever, itās a fantasy game and times are different.
The only time so far Iāve been let down and duped was when selecting a romance option (I also donāt like how easy/expected that has become from these games) but Iām a dwarf so I thought Harding was a good choice, not the best looker imo but sheās got hutzpa. I thought she just had battle damage and some grime on her face and the dirt will be off the next cutsceneā¦nope.
My biggest complaint so far is that itās just too fast moving and major events are happening but thereās not a lot of time spent dwelling on it, their giving you lore but not time to soak it in. I donāt want to say much else In the way of complaints for spoilers sake but I think the combat is the best itās ever been, as a warrior. As a warrior though I donāt really like how I can switch between 2h and 1h/shield. Itās fun gameplay wise but it kinda tarnishes your class fantasy/identity
BioWare has always been unfair towards dwarves and it all boils down to pure laziness. The player (yourself) is the only dwarf in all four games of the series that can have a romance and thatās because they donāt want to create extra scenes of you bending down to kiss your dwarven boyfriend/girlfriend.
They just assume that everyone is going to pick the tall beautiful race so itās a waste of money to create romance scenes for the few of us that love dwarves.
My dwarven gray warden was able to knock up Morrigan thank you very much. I donāt like how varric became the main point of view character though. Never trust a dwarf without a beard.
Edit: also for tall beautiful races, how can we play as a kunari who looks like what they do while we see kunari looking as they should. Iāve never liked playing as the kun cause the voice options donāt mix well but man, they look like they just came out of a matrix tube
???
I misunderstood, apologies. Thatās true unless you count varric and bionca, which I think the owner/love interest of Varric was in one of the games.
Didnāt ogren have a squeeze too?
My point was they have never allowed you to romance companion dwarves because they donāt want to create extra scenes of your character bending down to kiss your dwarf lover.
Oghren
Sigrun
Varric (in DA2 or DAI)
Now Harding or whatever her name is.
Itās easier to just create one-size-fits-tall romance scenes.
I hear ya but all in all Iām ok with that, I know BioWare games are kinda famous for being high fantasy romance sims but I just wanna kill some darkspawn and maybe stop an archdemon
Iām not because I like dwarves and I play these games for the story. Your character having a romance is part of the story.
If I wanted to play a hack-and-slash kill monsters game? I heard Monster Hunter and others is far better for that.
I understand and I think the story IS better with a romance but people go into these games looking at the companion list just to see who would make the best waifu or whatever it is the kids say these days. Itās expected at this point, and with the dialogue options having a heart on them itās too easy. For example look at baldurs gate 3, should have just been called booty call 3. How am I being flirty with Harding for example when I literally know nothing about her, weāve not traveled together at all, thereās no relationship yet if I just select the heart option the first time we speak, easy peasy. Itās just a dialogue option you choose because you can, not necessarily because you want too. Thereās no resistance or rejection.
Iām definitely looking at this with nostalgia glasses but I feel like I remember it being somewhat difficult with morrigan and I never really knew where i stood. You get to talk to her a lot more and discover so much about her character before anything really comes up.
Edit: I keep referencing Morrigan because that was my only experience, it may be biased
To be fair. morrigan is a complicated girlie compared to the other romances.
Liliana is BiS.
I felt SO BAD one playthru in origins where my very gay guy mage accidentally got into a romance with her because I picked an option that I thought was being platonically supportive. Ooops lol. This is why you save before talking
EA happened and made their lives hell.
EA wants to milk titles as always and farm their IPs for cash. Theyāve long since turned Bioware into a way to boost sales and interest it seems and appeal to the widest of playerbases to do so. This in turn seems to leave the game feeling more shallow than ever to reach even the lowest of the totem pole.
Just because someone does not like some aspect of the game it does not make them ābigotsā. I have even seen Trans bloggers say that the game is too āDisney-fiedā, too āoversimplifiedā and the representation āham-fistedā.
No, the story was great, the gameplay was great, the characters were believable.
