BIOS Warning

So I went to play WoW today and got a pop up about a BIOS warning that I did not get before.

I just got this compter last week and I read about the intel issue or what not.

I (believe) I updated my BIOS to the news version (its an ASUS model I thin is the name). It says it has the intel 0x129 microcode thing. I think that is what helps whatever the big problem is correct?

So why do I still get this error after updating? Or did I do something wrong?

As I understand, the bios you need was released in September, which is labeled 0X12B, since they use hex code, B=11. Not sure what bios Asus has for your MB.

I would say for now if there is no update from the manufacturer, you can likely skip the wow warning for now. If you notice more instability issues hopefully the Intel offer to extend your warrantee is still good.

0x129 is the August microcode update, but Intel released a microcode update in September which is 0x12B. Asus, and some other pre built manufacturers like MSI, are using different bios versions from their mainline that only have 0x129 pre installed and are generally dragging their feet about pushing out 0x12B. 0x129 does not fix all vulnerabilities, see bulletpoint 4.

So are you all saying that ASUS has not released a 0x12B version?

Because the error I get lists
i7-14700F
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. G16CHR
BIOS Release Date: 8/7/2024
Microcode : 0x129

When I go to the ASUS website under the BIOS update the most recent version is simply the one I have and I dont see a version with a 0x12B

For motherboards in prebuilts, no. I’m not sure about all of their retail boards, but a few I’ve looked at are at 0x12B patched in October.

thought i had it.

Different model. Latest is still 0x129 on that prebuilt.

Yeah, for this one you are current.

So basically stuck until the company puts out an update.

Until then I gather I should probably say off WoW because from what my very very very limited tech brain understands is that if I play WoW without the update my comptuer will eventually fry itself.

Or is it just going to fry itself eventually no matter what I do?

I tell ya man I cant win for losing. I get a new computer because my old one was on its way out. Figure I got a pretty decent set up only to have this thing crop up.

0x12B fixes elevated voltage requests during idle or light activity, so maybe you want to be playing WoW

That’s not actual advice btw.

Lol my BIOS is actually patched but still getting this message that f’n weird tho and anoying !

Then your motherboard manufacturer is behind and you’re still waiting for the update that fixes this.

Getting the same error but when trying update, it’s only giving me a renamer file. PRIME Z790-V WIFI is my motherboard.

Honestly, if you just got the computer last week i’d STRONGLY recommend you return it and swap to an AMD version.

I’m looking into selling my processor and motherboard once intel has returned my RMA chip.

I mean, my motherboard does have a newer driver to update…I just don’t know how to do that. Guess I’ll be calling my buddy that builds/repairs computers for a living.

There are 2 files that are downloaded. The renamer does exactly whats in the name, it renames the second file, though I don’t know if that’s necessary only for usb flashback (not something this motherboard supports) since the renamer portion isn’t mentioned in the ezflash 3 guide.
