Bios update No image detected

~~FIXED!!

Look i was using the AB350m Pro4
I needed AB350 Pro4
This is such a small detail but make sure you look for EXACTLY what you need. Double and quadruple check, this is prob 99% user error. Don’t be like me looking at this problem for almost 24hrs wondering whats wrong.

I’ve pretty much exhausted all roads.

Bought m.2 installed but system doesn’t see the drive. (m.2 isn’t actually screwed down bc mobo didn’t have the screw but thats another story system does boot)

First i checked bios, saw that there were many updates.
Payed close attention to the notes in the bios list to make sure i did them in the correct order. (update 2 needs to be done before update 7)

Double checked the model to make sure it was the correct bios and not a similar one.

USB DRIVE quick format, also long format fat32 extracted bios to USB

NO IMAGE DETECTED.

Searched web for answers, most of which just say make sure its the right bios.
(its correct)

I’m just really at a loss, only thing i have’nt tried is to downgrade the bios (i’m scared to do bc ight mess with drivers) and try to start all over again.

This was an AB350 pro4 asrock.
I’m just really struggling here and kinda at a loss.

I went directly to Asrock site and went thru the manual to see how things were done with that particular board as well as check-off possibilities I had in mind before you said anything.

Is your USB drive being detected? I had recently bought a new mobo and I was trying to update the BIOS as well (Asus). I followed the instructions correctly to setup the firmware to be flashed, which involved renaming the file a certain way, but my USB stick wasn’t being detected (looking at what you mentioned, I wonder if my USB partition type mattered; I was using exFAT). Instead I had to update the BIOS via internet update directly from within the CMOS config. Have you tried doing that?

Reset the CMOS on motherboard. I just had this happen to me. Lost all my fine-tuned OC settings in the process but it fixed my issue.

More details
So originally when i started this i actually had the instant flash recognize a bios and update. At the time i don’t remember what bios it actually was but it did successfully install the new bios 3.40 bridge.

Now i don’t remember what the previous version was (it might have already been 3.40) but it loaded up fine. I then took the next update it called for which i think was 5.50. And just copy pasta that onto my USB i did’nt remove the older 3.40 file. When i got into the bios it did’nt recognize the 5.50 file but it did still see the 3.40 file.

Eventually after a few reboots i removed the 3.40 file and still did’nt see the 5.50.
So i put the 3.40 back by itself and now it would’nt even see that!

So it did require a fat32 format and i did try both a quick format and a longer version to fat32.

The USB is a boot-able device so it does see it but it just can’t find the image.

CMOS RESET
So i just tried this, i did’nt remove the battery but there are some jumpers that you move to reset it. I’ve never done this what is supposed to happen?

My manual recommends to just move the jumper for 5sec. I did this unpowered, should i try to power it while the jumpers are moved?

So? what are you trying to do seems your’re over complicating things. like you need to initialize the m.2 to activate it, and bios updates are easy…i just got a new SSD a couple days ago and setup everything without a hitch.

A system can boot without a storage drive. It’ll just go into BIOS. So are you sure its plugged in correct? Normally you don’t update BIOS unless there is a real need for it.

  1. Let start with what version of BIOS you’re currently at.
  2. The Top m.2. slot is for PCIe and the bottom slot is for m.2. sata interface. So what did you buy exactly?

Sadly it’s becoming more and more common for mobo’s to be shipped with buggy bios. And just a quick check for that board indicates it has issues with m.2 that require a bios update.

So i bought this mobo like 3 years ago and i have’nt had a problem updating bios until now. I’ve done it before but for some reason now i just can’t get the image to show.

its an inland 2tb nvme m.2 pcie
on one of the notes for the bios update it does mention expanded support for m.2

I actually had ram comparability problems as well which is something I’ve dealt with several years ago

I just don’t think its very common for some generic parts specially something as simple as a hard drive to not be compatible. And if it does’nt support this at the end of the day i’m totally fine with that. Its actually not listed on their site but neither is the ram i have which is very generic ram. But i’ll never be able to rule that out unless i can update my bios.

Going a little deeper, i read that sometimes sata can share a lane. Currently i have sata 1-2 in used for other drives and sata 3 is unused. sata 3 shares a lane with the m.2 slot so its not begin disabled by another drive.

So really i’m just trying to figure out this bios update thing, i’ve reset the cmos several times now and still not getting other results. My friend told me some mobo’s use a certain usb slot to update a bios. The USB is in the same drive when i started all of this. And i refered to the manual and they do not mention anything about 1 usb begin used as an update slot.

Well what’s change since you’ve updated the bios?
USB? USB slot? There is no Version 5.5 for the B350 Pro4. There is however a version 5.5 for B350M Pro4

I have AB350 Pro4.
Nothing changed, i did’nt move the usb. It just suddenly would’nt see the image of the bios updates.

Did you extract the file? Is it able to detect the usb at all?
Internet BIOS update?

The fact that you mentioned the BIOS version 5.5 made me think you downloaded the B350M version and flash your motherboard with that.

i mentioned everything i did and i’m looking at the correct versions.

@Rexalot Have you tried p5.40 version ? i don’t see a 5.50 for pro 4

i just said 5.50 off the top of my head

I’m on p3.40 trying to get to 5.40

Still can’t figure why it won’t show the image

ok so if your usb flashdrive is formatted to FAT32 open the zip file inside of the usb and pull out the bios update p5.40. Drag it down so it’s outside the folder restart computer make sure u have the usb as boot priority 1, that should work hopefully

IT WORKS!
Sorry i feel like a total bumface.
I think i was trying to do the AB350m Pro4
I needed AB350 Pro4
I just kinda relied on my google history to bring up the same page everytime and this was a staring you in the face moment!

So i have updated, thanks everyone that tried to help out. I’ll edit orginal post to check check and recheck again to MAKE SURE ITS RIGHT VERSION. 100% user error. (I do still have the original problem of not seeing my m.2 though) I will just make another post about trouble shooting this.
