Billion Dollar Company Asks Players To Donate To Prize Pool For Its Own Tournaments

You cant compare baseball caps and jerseys to products advertised as being quasi-charity or towards a good cause. Thats more comparable the mounts and pets sold.

When the NHL says they need to sell new hot dogs to help host the Stanley Cup, you’ll have a better comparison. Like when Mcdonalds says all big macs somd on a particular day goes to sick kids.

Also, it’s usually for a far better cause than a company’s sports event, for which they will make an income.

Neither of the toys have been advertised as being for charity or a good cause. They are quite open in where 25% of the proceeds go.

…Yes, you can. I assure you that, if attendance for NFL or NCAA games declined to near zero, and sales of their merch fell dramatically, the leagues would be saying, “So… hey there football fans, we can’t continue to televise games and have them in these big stadium venues if there’s no income to support that.”

I dont mind them doing this. I mean everyone has a choice on whether to purchase the toys or not! Also other companies and sporting events do this all the time.

I actually watch the Twitch streams for the Arena and MDI Tournaments! I find them enjoyable although i do not play pvp or mythic anything lol.

Heck if i had the 20 bucks to spend i would buy both toys, but with the recent sale on services i used up all my blizz bucks on transfers and race changes.

Having said all that I DO agree with those who wish the amount going towards the participants (winners) was more than just 25 percent!

Thats the message they told their stockholders, which even forbes laughed at considering how much money fifa, call of duty, destiny 2 for a while, and all ranking in the top 10 earning games for 2018. If they have any financial issues or small profits it’s because they overpay their ceos, or pay them twice just to keep them, while laying off people despite a disparity so large that numerous piblications consider them the most overpayed ceos in the industry.

Dont pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining. Look at the numbers from neutral sources, not just the spin the company releases.

What’s ridiculous to me is that Blizzard has the unique ability to raise massive amounts of money for great, charitable causes with an incredibly simple pet/mount/toy/xmog…

…yet they use that ability to fund eSports payouts for their own events, when they just posted the most profitable year ever.

Come on, bra.

The CEO should give some of his bonuses to these and quit asking for handouts;

Didn’t he rank as one of the highest paid CEO’s vs a normal Employee at his company.

Which is why people are complaining. If it was for a charitu or good cause, people would likely be fine with it, instead they are seeing an advertisement for somethinh that Blizzard can afford without selling the toys. It’s an advertisement gimmick and people resent the gimmick because they can see through the sharade

are we just pretending valve doesn’t do this with dota2 or something?

because this business model seems to be doing pretty great for them.

Yes, if they were near bankrupt. The point people are making is that Blizzard is the opposite of bankrupt, making record profits, and now asking for help supporting an event for which it also plans to make a profit.

People see that and say: no, you have the cash, go pay for it yourself. It’s like watching a billionaire beg for money on gofundme.

Seriously, if this bugs you just let us know when/if you have a business so we can all stop by for all the free stuff you will be handing out.

I would guess this is partly to see how much interest there is in the whole e-sports side of WoW.

Would this thread even exist if they had just released the toys without disclosing the prize pool %?
I feel like it without that info we might see a thread or two with the usual shop complaints, but otherwise nobody would give it a second thought.

Here’s a newsflash for everyone, Blizzard previously just took $$ from wherever to fund their e-sports, so you still “paid” for it in the past but they didn’t bother to tell you how.

The Transmorpher Beacon is pretty cool, though.

  1. The sub has nothing to do with esports.
  2. They are tricking no one. If they were it wouldn’t be common knowledge that 25% goes to the prize pool.
  3. HvBF is by far the worst WoW youtuber, I wouldn’t give him a view even if I was paid to do so. He is known to lie and misquote in order to stir up panic/fear/hate because that way he gets views, which in turn make him money.

Which other games do players pay for a subscription to play the game plus are able to buy items to fund bs like this?

Subscription doesn’t have anything to do with esports. I don’t know why it’s relevant to this conversation.

It’s not relevant only because you claim it’s not.

If it’s relevant please tell me how.

That’s multi-billion dollar company to you. BTW, generally esport fans ask for this type of stuff.

Because we are the only game with a sub that does this now.
