It’s official. I just requested and obtained a copy of all my data from Blizzard and it records almost every world I’ve uttered in the game since 2009. Luckily they didn’t capture anything before that!
Hopefully that doesn’t surprise you.
Pretty much everything you do online is being tracked by somebody.
Loose Lips Sink Ships
They got your embarrassing pictures from the Christmas party too. We’ve all seen them
Have you ever read 1984 by George Orwell? Do you understand the import of the phrase?
With some games I also have copies of my chat logs on disk
Commercial capture of your online information is a bit different than the totalitarian government control talked about in 1984
Anything you put online is forever. Even if you delete it.
Interesting maybe I should request mine. There’s a few stories that I forgot about when I went to band camp.
Because I’m lazy I’ll just copy and paste this from Wikipedia:
In modern culture, the term “Big Brother” has entered the lexicon as a synonym for abuse of government power, particularly in respect to civil liberties, often specifically related to mass surveillance.
I get it…but this has nothing to do with the government. This is commercial surveillance which is completely different
I am so glad I got old before the age of mass surveillance otherwise nude photos of ex-bfs would be floating all over the web.
I’m glad my childhood was facebook free.
Alex, I’ll take things that never happened for $200.
Agreed. We definitely did some dumb stuff when I was a kid but nobody had a camera…so noone will ever be able to post it on the internet
I had a camera…but the only people who saw the photos were the camera techs who developed the film at one stop photo shops.
Assuming this is true the only thing that I’d find even a little surprising is that they haven’t kept anything from before 2009.
Collecting our data has been a standard practice for companies for ages now.
Alex is dead.
I’ve said Jupiter 19 times
Big brother is watching me? Well that’s a weird twist, Julie Chen has not mentioned it yet.
