BG strategy, listening for the sake of having a good time

I don’t know about y’all but I feel like we should have some sort of guide somewhere for everyone read before entering bgs. This isnt fun, I cannot spam bgs and loose most of them due to the same issue.

Most people seem to not know what they are doing. Most people not willing to even read the chat to follow simple instructions. The toxicity is rampant and man…. We need to come together and figure something out.

This is strictly for solo blitz rated bg

When it comes to battle grounds with flags you can cap, you cap them, wait for them to turn and go either support another location or hit a different flag. Unlike random bg, once a flag is fully capped, the enemy can’t take it from you.

  1. Both Capture the Flag variants, Warsong gulch and twin peaks

  2. Both 5 base variants, Arathi Basin and Deepwind Gorge

  3. Temple of Kotmogu (1 orb on each corner of the map. Grab orbs and head to middle. Middle = more points than running around outside on the outside)

  4. Battle for Gilneas, 3 nodes

  5. Eye of the Storm, 2 alternating bases + flag

Please remember, there is rating involved, make sure you come here to play objectives, you win by doing objectives. First and foremost, stay together. Peel for your healers and most of all, target healers first. If healers don’t go down, the enemy dps won’t die. This is about strategy, not getting the most killing blows. Someone that was floating all over the map, stealing flags, cc’ing ppl to not cap a flag (Rogues) is a billion times better than someone who got 79 killing blows and didn’t take a single flag.

If you’re going to play, please try not to throw the game away for your team mates. Sucks to queue for bgs and watch ppl not even communicate. At the very end, let the blaming and flaming begin.

Focus on objectives please.

Don’t go after single targets, focus your energy on flags or preventing the enemy from capping a flag. That’s always better than trying to 1v1 somebody.

Even if you don’t have much experience or never played and never seen the BG, always remember to stay together, protect your healers, target the enemy healer first and play objectives. This applies for all kinds of bgs, not just blitz.

Get some addons.

1: healers have to die. It puts a Red Cross on top of the enemy healer’s name plate. That’s your kill target

2: battle ground targets. It shows who the enemy has, specially when on a bg carrying flags. If you click on the enemy carrying a flag, you’ll know where in the map your target is.

I don’t know much about anything, anyone else is welcome to pitch In. Just frustrated, playing for fun but every bg is a disaster. Be prepared, watch a YouTube video on how battle grounds work before stepping in and you’ll be fine.

The rbg tactics would still apply to some extent.

Some basics (except for the obvious like focus healer, anticap, etc.) :

1: You want your tank to attack with a healer carrying him. Your zugzug squad should alternate between stopping opponent carrier/stopping anyone from progressing too much on the middle of the map (controlling central point is the best place to react faster whatever path opponent carrier will choose/also more vision)

2: Don’t overextend, always keeps the ones close to your main base. Usually one base is protected by a tank because he can keep it long enough for help to come. The other is protected by a rogue. zugzug squad goes fighting on the central node. possibly another stealth boy can try to invade a far node. Two things are important here if you defend 1 CALL when you see ppl coming towards you, don’t defend too close from the flag (rogue can sap you, capture, laugh, you need to position slightly away and have gap closer to manage this. during the sap, the will need to move to the flag + channel to capture, this need to be at least 1 sec longer than a full sap duration if you want to react.

3: The first to get the orb will took more dmg so it’s often easier to let opponent get first orbs kill them to get numerical superiority. Then depending on how tough your composition is, you can siege from mid or just rotate around as a bug and stack kills. (remember that you spawn randomly around the map so regrouping is a priority while also being main weakness of both team)

4: Almost the same as 2, the tank is the defender of the closest base. The rogue is an invader. The real fight is on the 3rd point.

5: Both team will get their closest base, invading to put some pressure is nice but not required except if losing hard. The main point here is dominating and keeping mid because the points (flag) is generated here. Also the carrier needs to communicate to don’t score a flag if team isn’t in control of mid (only one flag at a time so you don’t want to “offer” the next to opponent)

I wish I had the power to make this viral, but I’m just a lonely dark iron enh shaman dwarf. I wish we had some sort of beginners guide created by Blizzard, just hoping ppl read more of this.

Each map and comp you face with have some intricacies. With 8 players splitting up to 5 nodes more often than they should some times it is awkward. Players without MS, a healer in tow, and low numbers of teammates with them, will attack a node already gray capped(not fully capped) and these players equiped with low cc ability count and no MS will try to kill a healer, for far too long. Those 2 players dont kill the healer (expected), they are not equiped to CC and steal the node either so that doesnt happen. They should have used BGE addon to see they marched over to a healer they couldnt control or kill on a flat surface area that doesnt enable a knockback and cap strategy. By the time they give up fighting the healer the match is half over.

Single sitting nodes. I have the node capped all the way. A few seconds before it is uncapped 3 enemies are seen coming to me. I call it out. Are we wasting our time if i get reinforcements to stall the node so no one gets to cap it? Probably, in a lot of situations manpower would probably be most useful going where the enemies left since I can stealth over and meet them there instead of staying put and probably quickly dying in a 3vsme situation until help arrives often too late.

There is a lot of moving parts to consider in solo bgs, I’m not surprised the decisions my teammates make dont always look like the right plays in hindsight.

they absolutely know what the are doing. since its a random bg they don’t have to care.

Unfortunately it seems that way more often than not. Even with all the strategies available and information, ppl just don’t care to inform themselves or even communicate. Just suggesting, queue for random bgs if that’s the mentality. You’re wasting everyone’s time, including yours.

I’ve been saying this over and over, but part of the problem is the battleground UI does a poor job explaining what the objectives actually are, especially in blitz where some of the maps work differently.

I mean you need an addon to show how long until a point is captured, for crying out loud!
Nothing in EOTS explains that the bases are swapped when you capture a flag. Even the icons are actually not very clear on the map for what is an active vs deactivated base.

There’s no indicator for the turn-in for the crystal for the new cart map except a barely visible glow around the turn in point. Absolutely nothing showing you the cart fast travel or that you can turn in the crystal at either turn in spot.

Compare this to games like say, OW2, or HOTS, where the map objectives are clearly laid out and even if you’ve never played the map before you can just jump right in and follow the objective markers. It’s all spelled out in real time and everyone knows what the main objectives are at any given moment.

Of course nobody knows what to do, when the UI itself is so bad at telling you the information you need to know.
This could be solved with an addon, though Blizzard really needs to do it themselves and making this addon would be a ton of work for someone.

10000000% this

This effort shouldn’t come from the community. There should be something that explains and makes it easier for players to follow. If I forget to select a single talented I get a notification that won’t go away. Annoying as hell…. It would be amazing for Blizzard to do something to help explain what you need to do.

That said, they haven’t and they won’t. Is up to us :frowning:

That’s why I came here to vent and help with info as much as I can.

I don’t give a crap about rating. Just here for points. This mode is a joke.

The joke is your mentality. Did you know that by just doing the daily wins on random bg/epic bg/brawl, you can weekly cap? You never have to step foot in arena, solo arena queue or blitz.

Your mentality is the joke, don’t come here, we don’t want your kind.
