Normally in RBGs you have more time to swing it back in your favor. But Blitz is so short that if your opponent “ties” the game (on a quick recap, which is usually easier), it heavily favors them to just turtle for the remaining 2-3 minutes. If you cap first, you’re both basically just playing for the next cap (whoever gets it wins), instead of favoring the team that got the first cap. While it’s true that capping first shouldn’t instantly win you the game or anything, right now a lot of matches end up just going to whoever capped second. In my matches I’ve seen on average 2-3 total caps between both teams (in games that aren’t just 3-0 stomps). So with that in mind, if 3 total caps is usually the upper end that the time limit allows for in an even/competitive match, the fact is that the team capping second can basically call it either by just capping second and waiting it out (depending on the time that’s left), or at worst, it’s effectively sudden death for the next cap. The fact that it’s the second team that has the safety blanket in this case is what’s silly to me.
Honestly for Blitz specifically, I think the tiebreaker should go to the first cap, not the second. The current system is designed on the idea of momentum swinging between each cap, which is fine in a longer match because the idea is someone will get to 3 eventually, but BG Blitz almost ALWAYS goes to timer if it’s not a stomp, and going to timer favoring the team that was capping slower is just really silly.
